the iron from the handle, Elisha, having broken off a piece of wood, throws it, and the iron floated on the water. The king of Syria was at war with Israel, with Elisha foretelling it to him. The enemy, having learned of this, sends an army against Elisha. And when the prophet prayed, those who came were struck with blindness, and he leads them into the midst of their enemies, and when the king wanted to kill them, Elisha prevented him; and having feasted them, he commanded that they be sent away. When a severe famine had taken hold, so that a donkey's head was fifty shekels, and a fourth of a kab of dove's dung was five shekels, a woman comes to the king, accusing another woman, because having eaten her son with her, and having promised to provide her own, she had acted dishonorably regarding the exchange. Then the king tore his clothes and sends to Elisha to take off his head. The prophet says to the one who came against him that tomorrow will be the end of the famine. And when he disbelieved, he foretells his death. Four lepers, desperate from the famine, decide to give themselves up to the enemy, and having come to the camp, they found the place empty of men, but their tents full of much wealth. And having plundered what they could carry, they came and reported to the king. And at first the king suspected the matter to be a trick; but having sent horsemen and learned the truth, he let the people loose for the plundering of the camp; and the famine was ended. And the one who had disbelieved Elisha was trampled by the crowd and died. Elisha foretells to the woman whose son he had brought to life a seven-year famine, and advises her to move out of that country. And when she had moved away, and the famine had ceased, she returned again, and approaching the king she asked for the ownership of her properties. The king of Syria sends to Elisha to ask if he will escape the disease by which he was afflicted. But he said to the one who came that he would not escape, and he prophesied to him also the destruction of the Israelites. And when that man died, Hazael reigned in his place. And when Joram the king of Judah also died, his son Ahaziah succeeded him. Elisha, having sent one of the sons of the prophets, commanded him to anoint Jehu, and having become king, Jehu kills Joram, and throws him into the vineyard of Naboth, which Joram's father had seized. And when he had also killed Ahaziah, he entered the city of Israel. But Jezebel, having adorned herself, looked down from above. But the king told the eunuchs to throw her down, and being thrown down, she died. And Jehu also killed the seventy sons of Ahab, and seized the brothers of Ahaziah, and killed the priests of Baal, and smashed Baal. Then Hazael was ravaging Jezreel. And when Jehu died, Jehoahaz his son reigns. The things concerning Joash the king of Judah, and Jehoiada the priest, and Athaliah. Israel was delivered to its enemies, and again God had mercy on them. And when Jehoahaz died, Joash his son reigns over Israel, and having come to Elisha, he wept. But he commanded him, having taken five arrows 56.353, to shoot upon the ground. And when he had shot three and stopped, he said to him that he would strike Syria three times; for if he had shot the five, he would have struck it to completion. Having died, Elisha is buried, and a certain dead man, being thrown near his tomb, arose. And when Hazael died, the son of Ader reigned in his place. Joash struck the Syrians three times, and he died, and Jeroboam his son reigns. And when Joash king of Judah also died, Amaziah his son reigned; and having struck Edom, he also engaged with Joash king of Israel. But he defeated him, and entered Jerusalem. When Jeroboam died, Zachariah his son reigned over Israel. And when Amaziah king of Judah died, Azariah, who is also Uzziah, reigned. In his time, Hosea began to prophesy. But Shallum, having killed Zachariah, reigned over Israel. This man made use of the alliance of Pul, king of the Assyrians, giving him a thousand talents.
