Weak and near to death, and the kingdom and its affairs i have given to you and do as you wish.
On the 28th he died and was buried in the monastery of the holy apostles jason and sosipater.
Having died, he rejoices in the heavens, but has left us grieving his loss.
of both, of this one I say and of those. 37.5 And having set out I went also to Methone, so that by a sea voyage I might go to Ragusa and from there to Serbia, although he was considering, on the one hand, the situation in the Morea of his brother-in-law, Centurione the son of the prince, who had fled from the prison of Chloumoutzion and caused confusion in the place, and on the other hand, the amir having gone against Serbia, at which time he also took Omomvrydon. 37.6 But as there was no longer an opportune time for the Serbian matter to be accomplished, I went by sea to Patras. And from there, having crossed over from Vostitsa, on the 1st of September of the 63rd year I went to Adrianople and from there to Ainos, so that I might pass the time in secret, until the amir should return from the region of Sophia and the one who held the wretched mother of my children in a village of his stable-master should come to Adrianople. Whom I ransomed, upon my return to Adrianople, and also Chrysovergina who was with her, and in February I returned to Patras with them, having suffered many evils and spent much money. 37.7 But in October, while I was tarrying in the parts around Adrianople, Turahan having come with his sons and a large army in aid of the lords and despots, they enslaved the Albanians, having mistreated them in every way, and they drove out the pseudo-despot. 37.8 At which time, on the 2nd of January, Kyr Manuel Palaiologos was also born to the despot Kyr Thomas. 37.9 And in September of the 64th year my good daughter Thamar died in the amir's seraglio of a pestilential disease, alas, alas for me, her wretched father, being 14 years and 5 months old. 37.10 But I, the wretched one, not knowing this, on the 25th of October was sent as an ambassador to the government of the Venetians, Francesco Foscari being their doge; by whom I was honored and well-treated both with money and letters. 37.11 And on the [-]th of April I returned to Patras, by the help of God alone from the excessive evil of the sea, which met us on the way. 37.12 And in June of the same year the amir took the city of the Athenians. 37.13 But in July of the same year, the amir having gone to Belgrade, though he had taken the greater part, he was finally badly driven off by those who had come to its aid, namely John Hunyadi and Capistrano and other worthy men. And having been defeated and his useful beylerbey having died, he departed as a fugitive. 37.14 And in the 65th year the commander and governor of the army of Hungary, John Hunyadi, died, but also Capistrano himself, and furthermore the ruler and despot of Serbia, Kyr George Voulkos, died. And on the 2nd of May of the same year his wife the queen also died; on which day and hour, almost, her daughter the amir's wife crossed over to the amir with her first and blind brother and her uncle Thomas Kantakouzenos and all their property, fearing their brother and sister-in-law on account of their mother's property. 37.15 And in the 60th year in the month of November, despot Lazar himself also died; and the amir sent his beylerbey Mechemetes, so that, if possible, he might take Smederevo and all of Serbia peacefully and give another place instead of these to the wife and children of Lazar himself, which at that time he did not accomplish, but only took Peristerion by treachery, but after some time he also took Smederevo and the other place and gave the queen supposedly certain castles, which the amir had in Bosnia.
38.1 On the 15th of May of the same year the amir came to the Morea and having established his army at Corinth, he kept it besieged, but he himself, having come, fell upon the middle of the country; and everything there, some things he took captive, and others he burned and destroyed, and especially Akova, Aetos, and Pentachoria. And having departed
