When he died, Menahem reigned in his place. And after Uzziah, his son Jotham reigned over Judah; and when he died, Ahaz son of Jotham reigned. In his time Rezin the Syrian came up and Pekah son of Remaliah. But Ahaz sent to Tiglath-pileser the Assyrian, calling for an alliance. And he came and took Damascus, and put Rezin to death. And Shalmaneser the Assyrian also came up against Hoshea the son of Elah, and he became his servant. But when the Assyrian learned that he wished to revolt, for he had sent an embassy to the Ethiopian, he besieged him, and bound him, and taking Samaria and other cities, he carried them away to the Assyrians. An accusation of Israel here and of Judah. Those brought from Babylon and settled in Samaria, because they did not fear God, were being destroyed by lions. Then a priest is sent from there, and he enlightens them on the law of God, and they feared the Lord, and they served idols. The things concerning Hezekiah and the Assyrian, which are also found in Isaiah. The things concerning Manasseh and his impiety, and his murders. And when he also died, his son Amon reigned. And when Amon died, Josiah his son reigned; concerning whom it was prophesied to Jeroboam the servant of Solomon, when the king's hand also withered. This man cleansed Jerusalem, and every place, digging up the places of the priests of idols, smashing the idols. Concerning him it is said, that there has not been a king like him before, who returned to the Lord with all his heart, and with all his soul. In his time Jeremiah began to prophesy; in his time was Huldah the prophetess. And when Pharaoh Necho killed him, 56.354 his son Jehoahaz reigns in his place. And Pharaoh, having deposed him also, and brought him to Egypt, where he also died, appointed the son of Josiah, Eliakim, also called Jehoiakim, and he taxed the land. Who, having first become subject to Nebuchadnezzar, was cast outside the walls. Concerning him Jeremiah says: His corpse will be cast out to the heat of the day, and to the frost of the night; and then, He will be buried with the burial of a donkey. For after he had decayed, then he was buried. And when Eliakim, also called Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, died, Jehoiachin his son, grandson of Josiah, reigns; and this Jehoiachin was also called Jeconiah; no longer then did the king of Egypt go out of his country. And Nebuchadnezzar came and besieged the city, and when Jehoiachin, also called Jeconiah, came out to him with his mother, he deported him to Babylon, and he appointed his father's brother, the son of Josiah, king in Jerusalem. And this was Mattaniah, also called Zedekiah. And when he broke faith with the king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar came and besieged Jerusalem; and having taken and burned it, he blinded Zedekiah, bound him, and led him away to Babylon; and he appointed Gedaliah over those left in Jerusalem. And when Ishmael killed him, those who were left rose up and entered Egypt. And after these things, Evil-merodach the king of Babylon deemed Jehoiachin in Babylon worthy of great honor. Therefore the kingdom of Samaria, as has already been said, ceased under Hoshea son of Joelah (read: Elah) who slew Pekah son of Remaliah. But the kingdom of Jerusalem ceased under Zedekiah. For he also was led away to Babylon, and with his eyes having been taken out, he was cast into a pit for 26 years... Whom after these things the king of Babylon exalted, and gave him a throne above the kingdoms there, and he ate and drank with him as long as he lived. And with this the book ends, the people having been taken into captivity, and the entire city having been captured. And the names of the kings of Judea and of Israel, and what the end of each one's actions was, and how many years each of them reigned, to relate in summary (it is) from the aforementioned four books, are thus. After the death of Saul, who reigned 40 years, David reigns over
