in the same way partakes of the equal blessing with him. 2.1.6 But that it was not possible for all the nations to live according to the legislation of Moses, we have most fully discussed in the writing before this one, so that no one might suppose the oracle was spoken concerning the proselytes among the Jews. 2.1.7 And having established in the same place that only to those through Christ ... from all the nations would the blessing prophesied to Abraham concerning all the nations apply, we shall now again refer the studious to those things. 2.1.8 βʹ. From the same. But the Lord, revealing himself to Isaac, says these things among others: "and I will establish my oath to Abraham your father, and I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven; and I will give to your seed all this land, and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed." 2.1.9 Our savior and Lord Jesus, the Christ of God, was born from the seed of Isaac according to the flesh, in whom all the nations of the earth are blessed, having learned through him the God of all, and having been taught again through him to bless the men beloved of God. Wherefore he is also blessed in return, enjoying the same blessing as those who are blessed by them, according to the word of God which said to Abraham: those who bless you are blessed. 2.1.10 γʹ. From the same. "And God said to him," clearly to Jacob; "I am the Lord God, increase and multiply into nations, and assemblies of nations shall come from you." 2.1.11 According to what is apparent, only one nation, that of the Jews, was formed from Jacob. How then could the oracle, speaking in the plural, be true? But since the Christ of God, having been born from the seed of Jacob, brought together many assemblies of nations through his evangelical teaching, it is fitting that in him and through him the things of the prophecy have already previously reached their fulfillment, and will hereafter attain it even more. 2.1.12 δʹ. From Deuteronomy. "Rejoice, O heavens, with him, and let all the sons of God worship him. Rejoice, O nations, with his people, and let all the angels of God strengthen them." But instead of "Rejoice, O nations, with his people," Aquila says, "Make praise, O nations, his people," and Theodotion, "Rejoice, O nations, his people." εʹ. 2.1.13 Of Psalm 21. All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before him; for the kingdom is the Lord’s, and he rules over the nations." And it adds in sequence: 2.1.14 "A generation to come shall be told of the Lord, 2.1.14 and they shall declare his righteousness to a people yet to be born, whom the Lord has made." These things are clear, not even needing interpretation. 2.1.15 ϛʹ. Of Psalm 46. "Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with a voice of joy; for the Lord is most high, terrible, a great king over all the earth." 2.1.16 And it adds in sequence: "for God is king of all the earth, sing praises with understanding. God has reigned over the nations, God sits upon his holy throne. The rulers of the peoples have gathered together with the God of Abraham." And these things are clear and do not even need interpretation. 2.1.17 ζʹ. Of Psalm 85. "There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, and there is nothing like your works; all the nations that you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord. And they shall glorify your name, for you are great, and do wondrous things, you alone are God." Likewise these things are also clear. 2.1.18 ηʹ. Of Psalm 95. "Sing to the Lord a new song, sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless his name, proclaim his salvation from day to day; declare his glory among the nations, his wondrous works among all the peoples. For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised, he is to be feared above all gods." 2.1.19 and it adds: "Bring to the Lord, O families of the nations, bring to the Lord glory for his name." And in sequence: "Say among the nations, the Lord has reigned. For he has established the world, which shall not be moved." And these things are clear. 2.1.20 θʹ. From Zechariah. "And it shall be, that whoever is left from all the nations which
