61 Concerning the Egyptian dynasties after the flood, as Eusebius [relates]. After the dead and the demigods, they list the first dynasty of 8 kings, of whom the first was Menes, who famously led them. From whom we will record those who reigned from each family, whose succession is in this manner. 1. Menes the Thinite and his 17 descendants (but in another [source], 7), whom Herodotus called Min, reigned for 60 years. This one made a military campaign abroad and was deemed glorious. He was carried off by a hippopotamus. 2. Athothis, his son, ruled for 27 years. He also built the palace in Memphis, and he practiced medicine and wrote anatomical books. 3. Cencenes, his son, for 39 years. 4. Uenephes for 42 years. In his time a famine gripped the land, and he raised the pyramids around Cochome. 5. Usaphais for 20 years. 6. Niebais for 26 years. 7. Semempses for 18 years. In his time many portents occurred and a very great plague. 8. Ubienthis for 26 years. All of them reigned for 252 years. Second dynasty of 9 kings. 1. The first, Bochos, in whose time a chasm opened at Bubastis and many perished. 2. After whom also the second, Choos, at which time both the Apis and the Mnevis, but also the Mendesian goat, were considered gods. 62 3. Biophis, in whose time it was decreed that women also should have the royal prerogative. And after these, three others, in whose time nothing remarkable occurred. 7. But in the time of the seventh, it is fabled that the Nile, mixed with honey, flowed for 11 days. 8. Sesochris for 48 years, who had a height of 5 cubits, and a breadth of 3. 9. Cheneres for 30 years. In all, 302 years. In all for the first and second dynasties after the flood, 555 years according to the second edition of Africanus. 8. after whom Sesochris, 48, who is said to have been 5 cubits in height, and 3 palms in breadth. 9. and in the time of the 9th there was nothing worthy of mention. who also reigned for 297 years. In all for the 1st and 2nd dynasties, 549 years according to the edition of Eusebius. Third dynasty of 9 Memphite kings. 1. of whom the first, Necherophes, for 28 years, in whose time the Libyans revolted from the Egyptians and when the moon waxed beyond reason, they surrendered themselves out of fear. 2. Tosorthros for 29 years. This man was considered Asclepius by the Egyptians on account of his medical skill, and he invented building with hewn stones, but also he took care for writing. 3. Ratoises for 25 years. 6. Bicheris for 22 years. 7. Sebercheres for 7 years. 8. Thampthis for 9 years. In all, 274 years.
