First Book of Chronicles. It is called Chronicles, because many things omitted in the books of Kings are contained in these books. In this first book is the genealogy of all the tribes from Adam until the kings, according to tribes and according to peoples and according to clans and according to house. And which of the Levites David appointed to sing to God with flutes and lyres, and which he appointed for the works of the temple. For he himself had previously begun to build the temple. And it goes through certain other things in detail concerning the kings and the generations. To which these things must be added, that the total years of those who reigned in Jerusalem from David become 474. All the kings were from the one line of David, and those who did what was right are 9; and those who did what was evil are 12, without, however, Athaliah. And of those who reigned in Samaria, the total years become 269 and 30 days; there were 12 kings from eight different lines; and all of them did what was evil, according to the sin of Jeroboam. Second Book of Chronicles. In the second book of Chronicles the acts of the kings are presented. Those who wrote these things down are the prophets who existed at various times. And in order to know in part the authors, it should be noted that (read: that) the acts of all the kings of Israel and Judah are set forth here; that is, those omitted from the history of the kings. And those who recorded all their acts are these: Samuel, and Nathan and Gad the prophets wrote the things concerning David; concerning Solomon, Nathan and Ahijah the prophets; concerning Jeroboam, Shemaiah and Iddo the prophets; concerning Abijah, Iddo the prophet. The things concerning Asa, in the book of the words concerning the kings of Judah; concerning Jehoshaphat, Jehu the prophet, the son of Hanani, who wrote down a book of the words of the kings of Israel. The things concerning Joash, in the writing of the kings. The things concerning Amaziah, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. The things concerning Uzziah, Isaiah (six) the prophet. The things concerning Jotham, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. The things concerning Ahaz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. The things concerning Hezekiah, Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet. The things concerning Manasseh, in the words of the seers. The things concerning Josiah, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. The 56.358 things concerning Jehoiakim, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. These things can be found so arranged in the Chronicles of the kings.

First Book of Ezra. The book is called Ezra, because Ezra himself, being a priest and a scribe, narrates and writes the return of the sons of Israel from Persia to Jerusalem that took place.

The return happened first from the command, and then when Cyrus and Darius the kings commanded, by the hand of Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and Ezra and Zerubbabel, who competed with problems, a promise having been set forth, for the victor to ask whatever he might wish from the king. So when one said that wine conquers, and the other said that the king conquers, Zerubbabel said that women conquer, but above all, the truth. And since, having said these things, he had won, and heard that he could ask what he wanted, he himself requested that the captivity be released, and that Jerusalem be rebuilt. And it happened as he requested, and the captivity was released. For then the 70 years of wrath were also fulfilled. Therefore, those who went up from the captivity from Judah and Benjamin, and the Levites, are in number 42,000, 330 horses, 245 mules, 435 camels, their male and female servants #227334, 200 singers, #22 *6*720 donkeys, and those who were building were Zerubbabel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and Nehemiah. And Ezra, skillful in the law, himself brought the law, and read it, and set in order all things concerning the temple and the Levites. He himself showed the law, and caused the foreign wives, whom they had taken in the time of the captivity, to be cast out. And all cast them out, and were purified, and he celebrated the Passover according to the law, as it is written, and the
