he wished to be occupied for the benefit of the rest.Ro+m 15,24 He said 'in part' as one who would come to them again, since the blessed Paul did not arrive in Rome only once.Ro+m 15,28 And 'having sealed to them this fruit' he says instead of 'having fulfilled it,' so that he might say 'having delivered and given'; for even if in the judgment of the givers the fruit was complete, yet in respect to the need it was incomplete, since those for whose sake it was given had not yet received it. Therefore, the foreknowledge of the blessed Paul is wonderful, who so accurately promised that he would depart to them and from them to Spain, and indicating that this would not happen just once, which is what 'in part' signified. But what follows is exceedingly wonderful.Ro+m 15,29 He clearly shows that he also knew the manner in which he was about to go to them; and this was that he would be brought as a prisoner from Judea to Rome for the sake of piety. And this too was no small proof of the knowledge which he possessed concerning future events.Ro+m 15,30- 33 Since he himself was about to be tried in many tumults, having reasonably exhorted them also to pray, for this very reason he prays for them to enjoy peace always, showing that even if he himself is in these circumstances for the sake of others, he at least prays that the rest may pursue piety with all tranquility 172.Ro+m 16,3 This seems to be the one whom the blessed Luke also mentions in the Acts, as being eloquent and, from his knowledge of the divine scriptures, confounding the Jews in arguments. Ro+m 16,18 The matter of 'good words,' that is to say of the fair speech and flattery which they often used for deception. He is speaking about those from the Jews, who, going about everywhere, tried to persuade the believers from the Gentiles to hold to the observance of the law, whom he sufficiently disparaged by saying that 'they do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly,' if indeed they do everything for the sake of being able, by deceiving, to fill their own stomach. And in this he also showed that he strongly praises the teachings of Peter, inasmuch as he wants them to abide in those things and to turn away from those who attempt to teach anything contrary to them.Ro+m 16,23 He calls the 'steward of the city' the one entrusted with some secular care by the external authorities for the administration of the city. And this man was clearly also one of those who had believed in Christ.
