those who are hiding themselves, and are striving to withdraw, He makes manifest and renowned everywhere on account of both their own virtue and the benefit of others. But if there should be need, read it also to the heathen; that even so they may know, that our Lord Jesus Christ is not only God and the Son of God; but also that those who genuinely serve Him, and piously believe in Him, expose the demons, whom the Greeks themselves consider to be gods, not only as not being gods, but also trample on and persecute them, as being deceivers and corrupters of men, in Christ Jesus our Lord, to whom be the glory for ever and ever. κρυπτομένους, καὶ σπουδάζοντας ἀναχωρεῖν, φανεροὺς καὶ διαβοήτους διά τε τὴν ἀρετὴν αὐτῶν καὶ τὴν τῶν ἄλλων ὠφέλειαν πανταχοῦ ποιεῖ. Ἐὰν δὲ χρεία γένηται, καὶ τοῖς ἐθνικοῖς ἀνάγνωτε· ἵνα κἂν οὕτως ἐπιγνῶσιν, ὅτι ὁ Κύριος ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς οὐ μόνον ἐστὶ Θεὸς καὶ τοῦ Θεοῦ Υἱός· ἀλλ' ὅτι καὶ οἱ τούτῳ γνησίως λατρεύοντες, καὶ πιστεύοντες εἰς αὐτὸν εὐσεβῶς, τοὺς δαίμονας, οὓς αὐτοὶ οἱ Ἕλληνες νομίζουσιν εἶναι θεοὺς, τούτους οἱ Χριστιανοὶ ἐλέγχουσιν, οὐ μόνον μὴ εἶναι θεοὺς, ἀλλὰ καὶ πατοῦσι καὶ διώκουσιν, ὡς πλάνους καὶ φθορέας τῶν ἀνθρώπων τυγχάνοντας, ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τῷ Κυρίῳ ἡμῶν, ᾧ ἡ δόξα εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων.
