of Moses, which was dry and wooden, he made into a living serpent pursuing Moses, from which Moses was turned to flight, to show that what happened was not a phantasm, but true. And how for forty years did the people's garments not wear out and their hair not grow long and their sandals 62.6 not grow old? But let the fools tell me, who have followed the madness of Origen in this matter; when the Savior rose from the dead and left the linen cloths in the tomb, as it is written, did he then appear naked to the disciples, having risen 62.7 from the dead with body and soul? And when he was showing to those with Thomas his bones and his flesh, both his hands and his side, obviously he was not naked. Therefore who wove for him the garments 62.8 after the resurrection? But you will surely say to me, they were spiritual garments, which he had made for himself by his own will. And if he was able to make such garments for himself, was he not able to make those tunics of skin for those around Adam by his own will? And truly 62.9 the allegory of Origen fails. For if flesh was created for Adam after eating from the tree, from where then did God take the rib before he had eaten? As having been roused from his ecstasy he says, “this is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.” 63.1 “Therefore from now on let no one cause us trouble.” For thus the holy church of God believes from the beginning; for Origen will not stand 63.2 beside us on the day of judgment. For I truly wonder, how some can tolerate the one who blasphemed his own master. Let such people read Origen's On First Principles and let them learn, those who seem to be sons of the catholic church * and let them not dare to separate the Son from the divinity of the Father; 63.3 * how Origen did not deign even to say that the Son sees the Father, but he says: “As the Son cannot see the Father, so the Holy Spirit cannot see the Son,” and again “the angels cannot see the Holy Spirit and men cannot see 63.4 the angels.” And he presented a fantasy rather to himself and to those whom he deceived, but not to the prudent and faithful and believer in the truth and in the 63.5 spiritual teaching. Cease therefore, Origen, and cease, you disciples of Origen; for the apostles and the pro63.6phets speak the truth, rather than you and your teacher; let the Gnostics cease, being condemnable in their ways, and let the Valentinians and Manichaeans and Marcionites cease, who are in all things deceived, and let the Arians and Anomoeans and Sabellians and Pneumatians, also known as Pneumatomachoi, cease, and the Dimoerites who senselessly cast out 63.7 the mind. For in all things the divine scripture speaks truth; but there is need of understanding to know that God speaks truth and to believe him and his words and to know the things graciously given by God, both present and to come, and to know according to the promise the resurrection of the dead in perfection. For every heresy lies, not having received the Holy Spirit according to the tradition of the fathers in the holy catholic church of God. 64.1 And concerning all these things we shall speak yet again according to our weakness; but we, the least and humble, having been deemed worthy by God of the holy catholic church of God and to possess its firm foundation, set forth in part concerning all things, according to the ability of our littleness, for those wishing to take care 64.2 of their own life. And indeed what has been said concerning the Father and Son and Holy Spirit would have been sufficient; but so that for the greater gladness and preservation and full assurance of the faithful
