He will gather the lost of Israel and he will gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. What sign but the symbol of the cross, through which he guided to the truth those wandering from Israel and from Judah? 13And the jealousy of Ephraim shall be taken away, and the enemies of Judah shall perish; Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah, and Judah shall not afflict Ephraim. These things happened long ago when the kingdom was divided; but after the return from Babylon they had their old concord. 14And they shall fly in the ships of foreigners, plundering the sea together, and those from the rising of the sun and Idumea. For the divine apostles not only crossed the continent but also the sea and brought the ray of intelligible light to the islands; for in Cyprus Barnabas and Paul, the sacred pair entrusted with the husbandry of the nations, both refuted the falsehood of Elymas and showed the truth; and the blessed Paul ordained Titus apostle of |118 a| Crete and Timothy of Ephesus. These things, therefore, the all-holy Spirit foretold through the prophet: that they will plunder not only the land but also the sea and just as some generals, having overcome and conquered certain nations that had rebelled and deserted to a tyrant, they will bring them to the king of all and they will cross the seas having not Jews as pilots and sailors but foreigners and strangers. And they will first lay their hands on Moab, and the sons of Ammon will be the first to obey. And the blessed Paul teaches us this. For writing to the Galatians he put this after the introduction: “When he who had set me apart from my mother's womb and called me through his grace was pleased to reveal his Son in me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away into Arabia, and returned again to Damascus.” And of Arabia are both Moabites and Ammanites; for what is now called Philadelphia—it is a splendid city of Arabia—is called Amman to this day in the local language, and Moab is Charachmoba, and it is near Areiopolis. Thus the truth of the prophecy was shown through the apostolic testimony. 15And the Lord will desolate the sea of Egypt. For not only will he guide the aforesaid nations to piety, but he will also put a stop to the error of Egypt. For he called the bitter and undrinkable impiety the sea of Egypt. And he will lay his hand upon <the> river with a mighty spirit. And likewise he put the river in place of error. For just as they have their hopes for bodily life in the river, as reaping the fruits through it, so they were enslaved to the error of idols. But nevertheless he says he will also lay his hand upon this river with a mighty spirit. And he calls the dominion of the pious a mighty spirit, through which the precincts of the idols were overturned and the worship of demons was forbidden by laws. And he will strike it into seven channels, so that one may cross it in sandals. For when their kingdom was destroyed by the Romans they were divided into seven provinces, and they destroyed their former insolence and became passable for the preachers of the truth. 16And there shall be a passage for my people that is left in Egypt, and it shall be for Israel as in the day when he came out of the land of Egypt. That just as I brought them out of Egypt with a mighty hand and with a high arm, so I will bring them back again with wonders into Egypt and through these I will guide those others to the truth. 121And you will say in that day: I will praise you, Lord, because you were angry with me and you turned away your wrath from me and had mercy on me. 2Behold, my God is my savior, the Lord, and I will trust in him and I will be saved by him and I will not be afraid, because my glory and my praise is the Lord and he became my savior. The hymn declares the acknowledgment of the good deed; for those who have received it, that of it
