Κελεύει ὁ βασιλεὺς τῷ παραδυναστεύοντι, καὶ εἰσάγει τὸν ὀφειλόμενον προβληθῆναι σύγκελλον, καὶ ἅμα τῷ εἰσιέναι αὐτὸν προσκυνεῖ τὸν βασιλέα, εἶτα πλησιάζει τῷ βασιλεῖ, καὶ λέγει πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ βασιλεὺς, ὅσα καὶ βούλεται. καὶ εἶθ' οὕτως λέγει· "ἐπὶ ὀνόματος πατρὸς, υἱοῦ καὶ ἁγίου πνεύματος προβάλλεταί σε ἡ ἐκ Θεοῦ βασιλεία ἡμῶν σύγκελλον." ὁ δὲ πίπτει, καὶ φιλεῖ τοὺς πόδας τοῦ μεγάλου βασιλέως, ὁμοίως καὶ τοῦ μικροῦ, καὶ παραδίδωσιν αὐτὸν ὁ βασιλεὺς κοιτωνίταις, καὶ ἀποστέλλει αὐτὸν πρὸς τὸν πατριάρχην, καὶ δηλοῖ αὐτὸν, ὡς ὅτι "ἡ βασιλεία ἡμῶν προεβάλετο τοῦτον σύγκελλον." ὁ δὲ πατριάρχης κατὰ τὸ εἰωθὸς ἀπευχαριστεῖ τὸν βασιλέα, καὶ εὐθέως σφραγίζει τὸν προβληθέντα σύγκε 531 λον, καὶ προσκαλεῖται τοὺς μητροπολίτας καὶ ἀρχιεπισκόπους τοὺς κατὰ τὸν τότε καιρὸν ἐνδημοῦντας τῇ πόλει, καὶ λέγει πρὸς αὐτούς· "ὁ βασιλεὺς ἡμῶν ὁ ἅγιος θεόθεν ὁδηγηθεὶς τοῦτον προεβάλετο σύγκελλον·" καὶ ἀπευχαριστῶσι πάντες καὶ ἐξέρχονται. εἶτα κελεύει ὁ πατριάρχης τεθῆναι σκαμνίον μικρὸν εἰς τὸ εὐώνυμον αὑτοῦ μέρος ἀποκοπτὸν τῶν σκάμνων τῶν μητροπολιτῶν. εἰ δὲ τύχῃ εἶναι ἕτερον σύγκελον, τίθεται τὸ τοιοῦτον σκαμνίον εἰς τὸ δεξιὸν μέρος ἀποκοπτόν. ἀεὶ γὰρ οἱ σύγκελοι προεισέρχονται τῶν μητροπολιτῶν εἰς τὸ πατριαρχεῖον καὶ καθέζονται ἀποκοπτοί. ἰστέον, ὅτι ἐν ταῖς μεγάλαις προελεύσεσιν οὐκ εἰς μικρὰ σκαμνία καθέζονται οἱ σύγκελοι, ἀλλ' ἐν τοῖς ἰδίοις σελλίοις, δηλονότι ἐν τοῖς τοῦ πατριάρχου σεκρέτοις, οὐχὶ δὲ τοῦ βασιλέως παρόντος. ἐπὶ γὰρ παρουσίᾳ βασιλέως κάτωθεν τῶν μαγίστρων καθέζονται ἐν τοῖς μακροσκαμνίοις. καὶ ἐν τῷ μέλλειν εἰσιέναι τοὺς μητροπολίτας τὴν τοῦ σεκρέτου πύλην, ἀνίστανται τῶν σκάμνων οἱ σύγκελοι, καὶ τῶν μητροπολιτῶν εἰσερχομένων, εὑρίσκουσιν αὐτοὺς ἐκεῖσε, καὶ κελεύει ὁ πατριάρχης καθεσθῆναι τοὺς συγκέλους. καὶ πάλιν εἰσέρχονται οἱ μητροπολῖται καὶ οἱ ἀρχιεπίσκοποι κατὰ τὸ εἰωθὸς τῇ ἐκκλησιαστικῇ καταστάσει. τῶν δὲ μητροπολιτῶν τὴν πύλην τοῦ σεκρέτου μελλόντων εἰσιέναι, ἀνίστανται ἀπὸ τῶν σκάμνων οἱ σύγκελλοι, καὶ ἵστανται· καὶ εἰσέρχονται πάντες, καὶ κελεύσει τοῦ πατριάρχου καθέζονται οἵ τε σύγκελοι καὶ οἱ μη 532 τροπολῖται, καὶ περί τινων ἐκκλησιαστικῶν ὑποθέσεων συναίρει λόγον ὁ πατριάρχης μετ' αὐτῶν, οἷα καὶ ὅσα βούλονται, καὶ μετὰ μικρὸν κελεύσει τοῦ πατριάρχου ἀνίστανται καὶ ἐξέρχονται πάντες.
