their dwelling was in the tower. But some of them were double-minded, and some who were double-minded caused greater dissensions. In these, therefore, there is still hope of repentance, because they were always good; and it will be difficult for any of them to die. But those who have given in their rods dry, but with a little green, these are they who only believed, but have worked the works of iniquity; but they never departed from God, and they gladly bore the name and gladly received the servants of God into their houses. Having heard, therefore, of this repentance, they repented without hesitation and practice every virtue of righteousness. And some of them even suffer and [gladly are afflict]ed, knowing their deeds which they did. The dwelling of all these, therefore, will be in the tower. And after he had finished the explanations of all the rods, he says to me: Go and tell all men to repent and live to God; because the Lord had compassion and sent me to give repentance to all, although some are not worthy to be saved because of their works; but the Lord, being long-suffering, wishes the calling which was made through His Son to be saved. I say to him, 'Lord, I hope that all who hear these things will repent. For I am persuaded that each one, having recognized his own works and feared God, will repent.' Answering he says to me: 'As many,' he says, 'as repent with their whole heart and cleanse themselves from their aforementioned wickedness and no longer add anything to their sins, will receive healing from the Lord for their former sins, if they are not double-minded about these commandments, and they will live to God. But as many as add to their sins and walk in the lusts of this world will condemn themselves to death. But you, walk in my commandments, and you will live to God; and whoever walks in them and works rightly, will live to God.' Having shown me these things and spoken them all, he says to me: 'The rest I will show you after a few days.' Parable 9 After I had written the commandments and parables of the shepherd, the angel of repentance, he came to me and says to me: 'I wish to show you what the Holy Spirit, who spoke with you in the form of the Church, showed you; for that Spirit is the Son of God. For because you were weaker in the flesh, it was not revealed to you by an angel. When, therefore, you were strengthened by the Spirit and became strong in your strength, so that you could see an angel, then indeed the building of the tower was revealed to you through the Church; you have seen all things beautifully and reverently, as by a virgin. But now you see by an angel, though through the same Spirit; but you must see all things more accurately from me. For for this purpose I was given by the glorious angel to dwell in your house, that you might see all things mightily, fearing nothing, as also before.' And he led me away to Arcadia, to a certain breast-shaped mountain, and sat me upon the top of the mountain, and showed me a great plain, and around the plain twelve mountains, the mountains having one and another appearance. The first was black as soot; the second was bare, having no vegetation; the third was full of thorns and thistles; the fourth having half-withered vegetation, the parts on top of the plants green, but the parts near the roots dry; and some plants, when the sun had scorched them, became dry; the fifth mountain was very rugged, but it had green vegetation. The sixth mountain was full of clefts, some large, some small; and the clefts had vegetation, but the vegetation was not very flourishing, but rather

ἐγένετο ἡ κατοικία αὐτῶν εἰς τὸν πύργον. τινὲς δὲ ἐξ αὐτῶν ἐδιψύχησαν, τινὲς δὲ διψυχήσαντες διχοστασίας μείζονας ἐποίησαν. ἐν τούτοις οὖν ἔτι ἐστὶν ἐλπὶς μετανοίας, ὅτι ἀγαθοὶ πάντοτε ἐγένοντο· δυσκόλως δέ τις αὐτῶν ἀποθανεῖται. οἱ δὲ τὰς ·άβδους αὐτῶν ἐπιδεδωκότες ξηράς, ἐλάχιστον δὲ χλωρόν, οὗτοί εἰσιν πιστεύσαντες μόνον, τὰ δὲ ἔργα τῆς ἀνομίας ἐργασάμενοι· οὐδέποτε δὲ ἀπέστησαν ἀπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ τὸ ὄνομα ἡδέως ἐβάστασαν καὶ ἡδέως εἰς τοὺς οἴκους αὐτῶν ὑπεδέξαντο τοὺς δούλους τοῦ θεοῦ. ἀκούσαντες οὖν ταύτην τὴν μετάνοιαν ἀδιστάκτως μετενόησαν καὶ ἐργάζονται πᾶσαν ἀρετὴν δικαιοσύνης. τινὲς δὲ ἐξ αὐτῶν καὶ παθοῦνται κ[αὶ ἡδέως θλί βον]ται γινώσκοντες τὰς πράξεις αὐτῶν ἃς ἔπραξαν. τούτων οὖν πάντων ἡ κατοικία εἰς τὸν πύργον ἔσται. Καὶ μετὰ τὸ συντελέσαι αὐτὸν τὰς ἐπιλύσεις πασῶν τῶν ·άβδων λέγει μοι· Ὕπαγε καὶ πᾶσι λέγε ἵνα μετανοήσωσι καὶ ζήσωσι τῷ θεῷ· ὅτι ὁ κύριος ἐσπλαγχνίσθη καὶ ἔπεμψέ με δοῦναι πᾶσι τὴν μετάνοιαν, καίπερ τινῶν μὴ ὄντων ἀξίων σωθῆναι διὰ τὰ ἔργα αὐτῶν· ἀλλὰ μακρόθυμος ὢν ὁ κύριος θέλει τὴν κλῆσιν τὴν γενομένην διὰ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ σωθῆναι. λέγω αὐτῷ· Κύριε, ἐλπίζω ὅτι πάντες ἀκούσαντες αὐτὰ μετανοήσουσιν. πείθομαι γὰρ ὅτι εἷς ἕκαστος τὰ ἴδια ἔργα ἐπιγνοὺς καὶ φοβηθεὶς τὸν θεὸν μετανοήσει. ἀπο κριθείς μοι λέγει· Ὅσοι, φησίν, μετανοήσωσιν ἐξ ὅλης καρδίας αὐτῶν καὶ καθαρίσωσιν ἑαυτοὺς ἀπὸ τῶν πονηριῶν αὐτῶν τῶν προειρημένων καὶ μηκέτι προσθῶσι μηδὲν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις αὐτῶν, λήμψονται ἴασιν παρὰ τοῦ κυρίου τῶν προτέρων ἁμαρτιῶν, ἐὰν μὴ διψυχήσωσιν ἐπὶ ταῖς ἐντολαῖς ταύταις, καὶ ζήσονται τῷ θεῷ. ὅσοι δὲ προσθῶσι ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις αὐτῶν καὶ πορεύσονται ταῖς ἐπιθυμίαις τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου κατακρινοῦσιν ἑαυτοὺς εἰς θάνατον. σὺ δὲ πορεύου ἐν ταῖς ἐντολαῖς μου, καὶ ζήσῃ τῷ θεῷ· καὶ ὃς ἂν πορεύσεται ἐν αὐταῖς καὶ ἐργάσεται ὀρθῶς, ζήσεται τῷ θεῷ. ταῦτά μοι δείξας καὶ λαλήσας πάντα λέγει μοι· Τὰ δὲ λοιπά σοι δείξω μετ' ὀλίγας ἡμέρας. Παραβολὴ θ Μετὰ τὸ γράψαι με τὰς ἐντολὰς καὶ παραβολὰς τοῦ ποιμένος, τοῦ ἀγγέλου τῆς μετανοίας, ἦλθε πρός με καὶ λέγει μοι· Θέλω σοι δεῖξαι, ὅσα σοὶ ἔδειξε τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον τὸ λαλῆσαν μετὰ σοῦ ἐν μορφῇ τῆς Ἐκκλησίας· ἐκεῖνο γὰρ τὸ πνεῦμα ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν. ἐπειδὴ γὰρ ἀσθενέστερος τῇ σαρκὶ ἦς, οὐκ ἐδηλώθη σοι δι' ἀγγέλου. ὅτε οὖν ἐνεδυναμώθης διὰ τοῦ πνεύματος καὶ ἴσχυσας τῇ ἰσχύι σου, ὥστε δύνασθαί σε ἄγγελον ἰδεῖν, τότε μὲν οὖν ἐδη λώθη σοι διὰ τῆς Ἐκκλησίας ἡ οἰκοδομὴ τοῦ πύργου· καλῶς καὶ σεμνῶς πάντα ὡς ὑπὸ παρθένου ἑώρακας. νῦν δὲ ὑπὸ ἀγγέλου βλέπεις, διὰ τοῦ αὐτοῦ μὲν πνεύματος· δεῖ δέ σε ἀκριβέστερον ὑπ' ἐμοῦ πάντα ἰδεῖν. εἰς τοῦτο γὰρ ἐδόθην ὑπὸ τοῦ ἐνδόξου ἀγγέλου εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου κατοικῆσαι, ἵνα δυνατῶς πάντα ἴδης, μηδὲν δειλαινόμενος ὡς καὶ τὸ πρότερον. καὶ ἀπή γαγέ με εἰς τὴν Ἀρκαδίαν, εἰς ὄρος τι μαστῶδες, καὶ ἐκάθισέ με ἐπὶ τὸ ἄκρον τοῦ ὄρους, καὶ ἔδειξέ μοι πεδίον μέγα, κύκλῳ δὲ τοῦ πεδίου ὄρη δώδεκα, ἄλλην καὶ ἄλλην ἰδέαν ἔχοντα τὰ ὄρη. τὸ πρῶτον ἦν μέλαν ὡς ἀσβόλη· τὸ δὲ δεύτερον ψιλόν, βοτάνας μὴ ἔχον· τὸ δὲ τρίτον ἀκανθῶν καὶ τριβόλων πλῆρες· τὸ δὲ τέταρτον βοτάνας ἔχον ἡμιξήρους, τὰ μὲν ἐπάνω τῶν βοτανῶν χλωρά, τὰ δὲ πρὸς ταῖς ·ίζαις ξηρά· τινὲς δὲ βοτάναι, ὅταν ὁ ἥλιος ἐπικεκαύκει, ξηραὶ ἐγίνοντο· τὸ δὲ πέμπτον ὄρος ἦν τραχὺ λίαν, βοτάνας δὲ εἶχε χλωράς. τὸ δὲ ἕκτον ὄρος ὅλον σχισμῶν ἔγεμεν, ἃς μὲν μεγάλας, ἃς δὲ μικράς· εἶχον δὲ βοτάνας αἱ σχισμαί, οὐ λίαν δὲ ἦσαν εὐθαλεῖς αἱ βοτάναι, μᾶλλον
