from which God protected me? When his lamp shone over my head, I went forth at dawn in the city, and in the public squares my seat was set. For I rescued the poor from the hand of the powerful. May the blessing of those who were perishing come upon me. An eye, he says, I was to the blind, a foot to the lame, and a father to the helpless. I broke the molars of the unjust, and from the midst of their teeth I snatched the prey. As a thirsty land awaits the rain, so they awaited my speech. I encamped like a king among his troops. Sons of fools, and of dishonorable name; but now I am their lyre, and they have me as a byword. And they did not spare to spit in my face. You have considered me as equal to clay, in earth and ashes is my portion. And with a mighty hand you have scourged me. A brother, he says, I have become to Sirens, and a companion to ostriches. If my heart has followed after another man's wife, then let my own wife please another. For the wrath of a man is unrestrainable to defile a wife for them. If I overlooked one perishing naked, and did not clothe him, and if their shoulders were not warmed by the fleece of my lambs, then let my shoulder fall from my shoulder blade. For if I rejoiced at the fall of my enemies, and my heart said, "Well done," then let my ear hear my own curse. If I did not tear it up 56.367 and give it back, taking nothing from a debtor, if the land has groaned against me, instead of wheat let nettles come forth for me. The things concerning Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite; how he was angry with Job, because he declared himself righteous before the Lord. Then Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said: I am younger in years; therefore I was quiet, fearing to declare my knowledge to you. Elihu, rising up, shamelessly speaks against Job, when the three fell silent: I will speak again; for I am full of words. And Elihu said to Job: The divine Spirit is what made me, and the breath of the Almighty is what teaches me. If you are able, give me an answer. To turn a man from injustice. And he spared his soul from death, and that he should not fall in war. And he rebuked him in weakness upon his bed. And he will renew his body, like plaster on a wall, and his bones he will fill with marrow. Then, he says, he will blame himself saying: What things I have done? He has not tested me according to what I have sinned. Elihu spoke further to Job: Give ear, [Job], and hear me; be silent and I will speak. If you have a word, answer me; for I wish you to be justified. Elihu adding a third time says: Hear me, you wise men, who know how to give ear well; for the ear tests words. Elihu said further: What man is like Job, who drinks up scorning like water? not having sinned, nor been impious? [Far be it from me] and before the Almighty to pervert justice. But he repays a man according to what each of them does. Impious is he who says to a king, You transgress, transgressing. And, Who is not ashamed of a face before me. For the Lord oversees all things, comprehending unsearchable things, both glorious and wonderful, of which there is no number. A wise man has heard my word; but Job did not speak with understanding. Adding a fourth time, Elihu says to Job: What did you consider this in judgment? Who are you, that you said, I am righteous before the Lord? Adding a fifth time to his speech, Elihu, and neither Job nor his three friends pretend he is godless. It is clear then from that time, that the three repented. And he says to Job: Wait for me a little longer, that I may teach you; for there is still speech in me. Elihu said: Give ear to these things, Job. Stand still, consider the power of the Lord. Has a book or one who has written stood by you? or from the north clouds shining like gold? God, appearing, justifies Job, and teaching the mystery of Christ, said to Job: Who is this that hides my counsel, and holds words in his heart? Dialogue of the Lord, that I shut up the sea with doors. And I said to it, Up to this point you shall come, and you shall not go beyond, but in yourself your waves will be tossed. Word of the Lord, that You, taking clay, formed a living creature? Do the gates of death open to you in fear? and did the gatekeepers of Hades, seeing you, cower? Furthermore, have you come to the storehouses of snow, and have you seen the storehouses of hail? And from where does the frost come forth? and who has prepared for the rain
