When Theodosius learned this, he sent Aspar, his son, against him, and by the prayer of the God-loving emperor an angel of the Lord appeared in the guise of a shepherd and guided Aspar and those with him; and he led them through the lake adjacent to Ravenna, which was impassable, which God made passable as he did for the Israelites. And having crossed on dry land, they found the gates of the city open, and they killed the tyrant, and freed Ardaburius from his chains.
