the prophet, in order to receive another revelation, saw four chariots from between two bronze mountains. The first chariot had red horses yoked to it, the second black, the third white, the fourth dappled ash-grey. 1.405 Having seen the four chariots, wishing to learn about them, he asks the angel speaking in him what the things seen are. And he answers, saying that they are the four winds of heaven, that is, the four regions of the inhabited world. The black ones were seen going out from the land of the north, with the white ones going out behind them; and the ash-grey and dappled ones came from the south. 1.406 It was said concerning all the horses, as far as I was able, when they were seen in the first vision following the man mounted on a red horse; therefore, being satisfied with those things, the things said now that were not brought up in the first vision must be considered. 1.407 Two bronze mountains are mentioned from between which the chariots went forth. And see if by bronze is meant the very clear phrase having much resonance. And the sophistic aṇḍ heretical teachers use this, becoming "a resounding bronze and a clanging cymbal," on account of being deprived of divine love for the 1.398 lawlessness, he says to the angel speaking in him: "Where are these carrying the measure?" 1.399 And the angel answering says: "To build a house for it in the land of Babylon, and they will place it there on its foundation." 1.400 For what other place was fitting for that which has lawlessness for a measure, than confusion, so that it might be found ready for those who desire it? Therefore, Babylon must be turned away from and fled from, because the measure has been placed there to be found ready for those who wish it. Therefore, the divine word cries out as a herald ṭọ the one wishing to be zealous: "Come out of Babylon, fleeing from the land of the Chaldeans." 1.401 Having paid attention to the prophet's vision as such, let us hate having the wings of a hoopoe, having been wịnged according to the Holy Spirit; for thus it is easiest to pass into the super-celẹstial regions.
1.402Zach. VI, 1-8: And I returned and lifted up my eyes and saw;
and behold, four chaṛiots coming out from between two mountains, and the mountains were bronze mountains. In the first chariot were red horses, and in the second chariot black horses, and in the third chariot white horses, and in the fourth chariot dappled ash-grey horses. And I answered and said to the angel who was speaking in me: What are these, Lord? Ạnd the angel who was speaking in me answered and said: These are the four winds of heaven, they go forth to stand before the Lord of all the earth; 1.403 in which were the black horses, they went forth to the land of the north, and the white went forth after them, and the dappled went forth to the land of the south, and the ash-grey went forth and looked to go and patrol the earth. And they patrolled the earth. And he cried out and spoke to me, saying: Behold, those who go forth to the land of the north have appeased my wrath in the land of the north. 1.404 The prophet, having returned to receive another revelation, saw four chariots from between two bronze mountains.
