a violent flow? Again, Who is the father of the rain? And from whose womb does the ice come forth? And who has begotten the frost in heaven and the clods of dew? Will you call a cloud with your voice, and will it obey 56.368 you with a trembling of violent water? Will you send forth lightnings, and will they go? Who has given to women wisdom in weaving? Again, Who has prepared food for the raven? For its young cry to the Lord, wandering, seeking food. That, a flying wing will rejoice, if the ostrich and the stork conceive. She will leave her eggs on the ground. When God made wisdom silent for her, and she will laugh at the horse. And, By knowledge the hawk stands, and the vulture, sitting on its nest, lodges. Again the Lord spoke to Job: Do you judge a judgment with the mighty one? and will he who reproves God answer it? Job spoke to the Lord, that, I am judged, being admonished, and reproving the Lord, I hear. The Lord spoke to Job out of the cloud, appearing to him a second time: Gird up your loins like a man. I will ask you, and you answer me. The word of the Lord: I will then confess that your right hand is able [to save]. But behold the beasts with you; they eat grass like oxen. And its strength is in the navel of its belly. It set its tail like a cypress. Its ribs are ribs of bronze; and its spine is cast iron. And under all the trees it sleeps. Will you, he says, draw out a lion with a hook; and will you put a halter about its nose? And all the sea-creatures gathered together shall not bear one hide of its tail. It esteems iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood. A bronze bow will not wound it. So far, and Job ceased to speak: I know you can do all things, and nothing is impossible for you. For who is he that hides counsel from you? And I have considered myself earth and ashes. The Lord reproved Eliphaz the Temanite, because he had sinned, he and his two friends, because he did not speak the truth before the Lord, not even as his servant Job did. Here is the propitiation for the three friends through Job the priest of God. How the Lord increased Job; and when he had prayed also for his friends, the Lord forgave them their sin. How all from Job's kindred heard, and came to him, and ate and drank with him, and having marveled at him they each gave him one lamb, and a golden tetradrachm. How it is written that he will rise again with those whom the Lord raises up. In which things is also the entire power of the book of Job.
The Wisdom of Solomon. The book is called the Wisdom of Solomon; for they say that Solomon is the one who wrote this as well. And in it there is teaching of righteousness, and the knowledge of both worthless men and zealous men, and a prophecy about Christ. And that wisdom is achieved with much labor and longing. And again also some natural philosophy; and against idols and those who carve them, and those who hope in them, and worship them; and a hymn with a confession of the wonders that happened to the Israelites before their enemies, from God. The scope, therefore, of the book is in this manner. And the summary is in these things. In the introduction, an exhortation of the righteous to piety, and a refutation of the impious blasphemer. For do not envy, 56.369 he says, the antichrists, who are death. From where the impious came to crucify the Lord of glory, having preferred this age. That they also persecuted and killed the apostles. That there will be some who despise the law of the Lord, and some who are subject to it. That God will not spare even a multitude of those acting impiously against Christ. For God cares for one righteous person who believes in Christ, even if he should die young. For honorable old age is not that which is long-lived. Even if an impious man despised the death of one who believes in Christ, yet they are chosen by Christ. The impious will be delivered to a dishonorable fall, and the persecutors of Christ's servants will be cast down by a great judgment, in the judgment, seeing His glory and theirs, and themselves into punishment.
