The asekretis and the notarioi of the asekretis offices and other officials of the sekreta wore their own kamisia and the fringed cloaks of the festivals, that is, those having pointed tablia. Near the imperial throne on this side and that, that is to the right and left, were set up the Roman sceptres and ptychia and other golden sceptres, held by the kandidatoi, who were, of course, wearing skaramangia and their kandidatikia. The other items of equipment, both the kampidiktoria and labara and signa, were set up below the aforementioned items of equipment, held, of course, by the elatai of the first dromonion. And these same elatai wore the fringed uniforms of the tagmata. Outside the curtains, above the steps, stood 576 the manglabitai wearing skaramangia and their own swords. And immediately after the manglabitai stood the Macedonians of the Great Hetaireia from the inner guard, wearing belted swords and silver ones, with gilded and silver loroi, carrying also golden and bronze-gilt and iron shields and single-bladed axes and axes. And below these same steps stood the Great Hetaireia, likewise also the Middle, along with the Pharganoi and Khazars, all wearing swords and carrying shields. The oikeiakoi protospatharioi stood on the solea on this side and that wearing greenish-pink skaramangia and swords. And after them stood the spatharokandidatoi wearing multi-colored skaramangia and swords and their spatharokandidatikia. And after them stood the spatharioi, they too wearing multi-colored skaramangia and their own swords, and carrying double-headed axes. And after them stood the stratores wearing skaramangia with white lions, and of other colors and designs, carrying also their stratorikia. To the right, toward the west, at the junction of the two curtains, outside and above the steps of the great triklinos of the Magnaura, stood a man of the Great Hetaireia carrying the gold-woven silk imperial flammoulon. On this side and that of the same steps of the same great triklinos of the Magnaura, outside the same 577 curtains, stood the two protoelatai carrying the golden imperial flammoula. And then, in order after the two protoelatai, to the right and left, were placed all the golden, gold-embroidered and silk and other imperial flammoula, carried by the elatai of the imperial dromonion, these elatai, of course, wearing the uniforms of the four colors of the tagmata. And the demesmen of the two factions and the cantors of the Holy Apostles, and likewise those of Hagia Sophia, stood on high stools on this side and that of the same steps, acclaiming and singing imperial lauds. And the demesmen wore their own uniforms and golden crowns, carrying also their own handkerchiefs. But the cantors of the Holy Apostles and of Hagia Sophia wore the fringed uniforms of the tagmata and the all-purple silks of the skeptos and the kamisia under phialion, and of those who serve in the chambers of the nineteen akoubita. It is to be known that on the day of the reception the logothete himself also wore a loros. It is to be known that at the exit gate in the triklinos of the kandidatoi stood, inside and out, the commanders of the Arithmos, they too with skaramangia, wearing also their own swords, and carrying shields. It is to be known that on that same day of the reception all the aforementioned persons from the protospatharioi down to the last man wearing a ska 578 ramangion stood each according to his own skaramangion of that color and design, that is, those wearing the greenish-pink eagles on this side and that, those with the bophoi and the eagles with many circles, likewise those with the seas, and likewise those with the white lions. And, simply put, as has been said, each stood according to his own skaramangion. And the kandidatoi stood in their own triklinos on this side and that with their own skaramangia, wearing their kandidatikia, and behind these same kandidatoi stood on this side and that the mandatores of the Arithmos with swords and shields. And the elatai of the imperial dromonia stood on this side and that in the same triklinos of the kandidatoi towards the side of the church of the Lord and in the triklinos in which the kamelaukion is placed and the magistroi are received, and in the onopous. And after these, in the portico of the Augustaion, that is, at the Golden Hand, they stood on this side
