well-pleasing in the Lord. Sirach 3. Child, support your father in his old age, and if his understanding fails,
have patience; and do not dishonor him in all your strength. For alms given to a father will not be forgotten; and as fair weather in frost, so will your sins be dissolved.
Sirach 7. With your whole heart, glorify your father, and do not forget the birth pangs of your mother. Remember that through them you were born, and what will you give back to them, as they did for you?
Of Basil. Grateful children make great the praises of their fathers. Of the Theologian. Do the good, because it is good to obey one's father; and if nothing
should be your concern, this itself is the reward, to please your father. As a servant, serve those who begot you; for what will you give back to them, such as
they did for you? for it is not possible to beget them in return. Fathers who neglect the modesty and prudence of their children, happen to be child-killers, and more terrible than those, inasmuch as the destruction and death is also for the soul.
