to him and the one showing him by his own appearance. 5.13 And just as through the Son all things were made, so by the Spirit all things were sanctified and strengthened. For the apostles say: “Lord, who made heaven and earth and the sea and all that is in them; who by the Holy Spirit, but the mouth of David your servant, an image.” And just as the only-begotten is signified as of equal power and like the Father and a ruler according to: “Whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner,” so also the Spirit of God according to: “But all these things one and the same Spirit works.” 5.14 And just as Christ said concerning himself: “no one has known the Father, except the Son,” so also concerning the Holy Spirit the like has been said, that: “the things of God no one has known, except the Spirit of God.” And in the way the Son was called the angelic, “angel of great counsel”; so also concerning the Holy Spirit; for it says: “But we have received the Spirit of God, that we might know the things freely given to us by God.” 5.15 And most similar to: “Christ the firstfruits,” is the saying which states: “and having the firstfruits of the Spirit.” And of equal weight to: “And may the Lord sanctify you, that you may be sincere and without offense unto the day of redemption,” is: “that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified in the Holy Spirit.” And of equal balance to the saying: “he who set me apart from my mother's womb, through his grace to reveal his Christ in me,” is: “God revealed it through his Spirit.” 5.16 And of equal power to the saying: “Test yourselves, whether Christ is in you,” is to say: “But we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit of God.” And equal is: “Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and the Spirit of God dwells in you?” to that written by John: “if we love one another, God abides in you. By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, from his Spirit, which he has given us,” and to: “We will come, I and the Father, and we will make our home with him.” 5.17 And just as through the Father and the Son the Holy Spirit is given according to: “I will pour out from my Spirit upon all flesh” and according to: “Receive the Holy Spirit;” so through the Holy Spirit Christ, according to Paul writing to the Ephesians: “that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell.” 5.18 And we might take in a like and equal way: “The word of the Lord came to this prophet” and: “the Lord said” and: “thus says the Lord Almighty” with that said by Peter in the Acts: “it was necessary for the scripture to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold” and with that by Paul in Rome to the Jews: “Well did the Holy Spirit speak through Isaiah the prophet” and with: “But the Spirit expressly says” and: “thus says the Lord Almighty”. 5.19 And of equal honor to: “the eternal God” is that preached by Paul: “who offered himself through the eternal Spirit.” And comparable to: “no one is able to receive the Holy Spirit except from the Lord” and to: “Receive the Holy Spirit” is: “no one can say 'Jesus Christ is Lord', except in the Holy Spirit.” 5.20 And it is the same thing: “to be led by the Holy Spirit to the truth,” that is to be led by the Holy Spirit to the true faith, with being led by the Lord Christ who decrees: “baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” And of equal force to the saying that states: “Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?” is the writing: “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” And of similar wording to: “You will send forth your Spirit and they will be created” is: “You will send forth your Word, and it will melt them.” 5.21 And of equal contest to the saying: “the Lord is witness to my soul, that I do not lie” is the writing: “the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will testify concerning me;” and:

αὐτῷ καὶ τὸν δεικνύντα αὐτὸν τῇ ἑαυτοῦ ἐμφανείᾳ. 5.13 καὶ ὥσπερ διὰ τοῦ υἱοῦ πάντα ἐγένετο, οὕτως ὑπὸ τοῦ πνεύματος πάντα ἡγιάσθη καὶ ἐδυναμώθη. φασὶν γὰρ οἱ ἀπόστολοι· «δέσποτα, ὁ ποιήσας τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ τὴν θάλασ σαν καὶ πάντα τὰ ἐν αὐτοῖς· ὁ διὰ πνεύματος ἁγίου, στόματος δὲ ∆αυὶδ παιδός σου εἰκών.» καὶ καθὰ ἰσοδύναμος καὶ ὅμοιος ὁ μονογενὴς τῷ πατρὶ καὶ ἐξουσιαστὴς σημαίνεται κατὰ τό· «ὅσα ἂν ποιῇ ὁ πατήρ, ταῦτα καὶ ὁ υἱὸς ὁμοίως ποιεῖ» ὡσαύτως καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τοῦ θεοῦ κατὰ τό· «πάντα δὲ ταῦτα ἐνεργεῖ τὸ ἓν καὶ τὸ αὐτὸ πνεῦμα.» 5.14 καὶ ὥσπερ περὶ ἑαυτοῦ εἶπεν ὁ Χριστός· «οὐδεὶς ἔγνω τὸν πατέρα, εἰ μὴ ὁ υἱὸς,» οὕτω καὶ περὶ τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος τὸ ὅμοιον εἴρηται, ὅτι· «τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐδεὶς ἔγνω, εἰ μὴ τὸ πνεῦμα τοῦ θεοῦ.» καὶ ὃν τρόπον ὁ υἱὸς τὸ ἀγγελτικόν, «μεγάλης βουλῆς ἄγγελος» ἐκλήθη· οὕτω καὶ περὶ τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος· φησὶν γάρ· «ἀλλὰ ἐλάβομεν τὸ πνεῦμα τοῦ θεοῦ, ἵνα εἰδῶμεν τὰ ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ χαρισθέντα ἡμῖν.» 5.15 καὶ ὁμοιότατον τῷ· «ἀπαρχὴ Χριστός,» τὸ λέγον ῥητόν· «καὶ τὴν ἀπαρχὴν τοῦ πνεύματος ἔχοντες.» καὶ ἰσοπαλὲς τῷ· «ὁ δὲ κύριος ἁγιάσαι ὑμᾶς, ἵνα ἦτε εἰλικρινεῖς καὶ ἀπρόσκοποι εἰς ἡμέραν ἀπολυτρώσεως,» τό· «ἵνα γένηται ἡ προσφορὰ τῶν ἐθνῶν εὐπρόσδεκτος, ἡγιασμένη ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ.» καὶ ἰσόρροπον τῷ εἰπεῖν· «ὁ ἀφορίσας με ἐκ κοιλίας μητρός μου, διὰ τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ ἀποκαλύψαι ἐν ἐμοὶ τὸν Χριστὸν αὐτοῦ,» τό· «ἀπεκάλυψεν ὁ θεὸς διὰ τοῦ πνεύματος αὐτοῦ.» 5.16 καὶ ἰσοδύναμον τῷ εἰπεῖν· «ἑαυτοὺς δοκιμάζετε, εἰ ὁ Χριστὸς ἐν ὑμῖν,» τὸ φάναι· «ἡμεῖς δὲ οὐ πνεῦμα τοῦ κόσμου ἐλάβομεν, ἀλλὰ τὸ πνεῦμα τοῦ θεοῦ.» καὶ ἴσον τό· «οὐκ οἴδατε, ὅτι ναὸς θεοῦ ἐστε, καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τοῦ θεοῦ οἰκεῖ ἐν ὑμῖν;» τῷ ὑπὸ Ἰωάννου γραφέντι· «ἐὰν ἀγαπῶμεν ἀλλήλους, ὁ θεὸς ἐν ὑμῖν μένει. ἐν τούτῳ γινώσκομεν, ὅτι ἐν αὐτῷ μένομεν καὶ αὐτὸς ἐν ἡμῖν ἐκ τοῦ πνεύματος αὐτοῦ, οὗ ἔδωκεν ἡμῖν,» καὶ τῷ· «ἐλευσόμεθα ἐγὼ καὶ ὁ πατήρ, καὶ μονὴν παρ' αὐτῷ ποιήσομεν.» 5.17 καὶ ὥσπερ διὰ τοῦ πατρὸς καὶ τοῦ υἱοῦ τὸ ἅγιον πνεῦμα δίδοται κατὰ τό· «ἐκχεῶ ἀπὸ πνεύματός μου ἐπὶ πᾶσαν σάρκα» καὶ κατὰ τό· «λάβετε πνεῦμα ἅγιον·» οὕτως διὰ τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος ὁ Χριστὸς κατὰ τὸν Παῦλον Ἐφεσίοις γράφοντα· «ἵνα δῷ ὑμῖν, κατὰ τὸν πλοῦτον τῆς δόξης αὐτοῦ, δυνάμει κραταιωθῆναι διὰ τοῦ πνεύματος αὐτοῦ, εἰς τὸν ἔσω ἄνθρω πον κατοικῆσαι τὸν Χριστόν.» 5.18 ἐκλάβοιμεν δ' ἂν ἐν ὁμοίῳ καὶ ἴσῳ τό· «ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρὸς τόνδε τὸν προφήτην» καὶ τό· «κύριος εἶπεν» καί· «τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ» τῷ ἐν ταῖς πράξεσιν ὑπὸ Πέτρου εἰρημένῳ· «ἔδει πληρωθῆναι τὴν γραφήν, ἣν προεῖπεν τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον» καὶ τῷ ὑπὸ Παύλου ἐν Ῥώμῃ πρὸς τοὺς Ἰουδαίους· «καλῶς τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον ἐλάλησεν διὰ Ἠσαίου τοῦ προφή του» καὶ τῷ· «τὸ δὲ πνεῦμα ῥητῶς λέγει» καί· «τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ». 5.19 ἰσότιμόν τε τῷ· «ὁ θεὸς αἰώνιος» τὸ ὑπὸ Παύλου κηρυχθέν· «ὃς ἑαυτὸν προσήνεγκεν διὰ πνεύματος αἰωνίου.» συγκριτικόν τε τῷ· «οὐδεὶς δύναται πνεῦμα ἅγιον λαβεῖν ἢ παρὰ κυρίου» καὶ τῷ· «λάβετε πνεῦμα ἅγιον» τό· «οὐδεὶς δύναται εἰπεῖν κύριον Ἰησοῦν Χριστόν, εἰ μὴ ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ.» 5.20 ταὐτόν τέ ἐστιν τό· «ὁδηγεῖσθαι ὑπὸ τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος πρὸς τὴν ἀλήθειαν,» τουτέστιν τὸ ὁδηγεῖσθαι ὑπὸ τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος πρὸς τὴν ἀληθινὴν πίστιν, τῷ ὁδηγεῖσθαι ὑπὸ τοῦ δεσπότου Χριστοῦ θεσπίζοντος· «βαπτίζοντες αὐτοὺς εἰς τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ πατρὸς καὶ τοῦ υἱοῦ καὶ τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος.» καὶ ἰσοσθενὲς τῷ λέγοντι ῥητῷ· «μὴ παραζηλοῦμεν τὸν κύριον; μὴ ἰσχυρότεροι αὐτοῦ ἐσμεν;» τὸ γράφειν· «μὴ λυπεῖτε τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον τοῦ θεοῦ, ἐν ᾧ ἐσφραγίσθητε εἰς ἡμέραν ἀπολυτρώσεως.» καὶ ὁμοιόλεκτον τῷ· «ἐξαποστελεῖς τὸ πνεῦμά σου καὶ κτισθήσονται» τό· «ἐξαποστελεῖς τὸν λόγον σου, καὶ τήξει αὐτά.» 5.21 ἰσάμιλλόν τε τῷ εἰπεῖν· «κύριος μαρτυρεῖ τῇ ἐμῇ ψυχῇ, ὅτι οὐ ψεύδομαι» τὸ γράφειν· «τὸ πνεῦμα τῆς ἀληθείας, ὃ παρὰ τοῦ πατρὸς ἐκπορεύεται, ἐκεῖ νος μαρτυρήσει περὶ ἐμοῦ·» καί·
