to work their benefit in every way, so that we may also share with them in the crowns there. But if you are contentious, the children, if they are noble, even against your will shall come to this philosophy, and will enjoy all the good things, but for you it will remain to gather countless punishment for yourselves, and then to praise the things said by us, when the praise is of no benefit to you.

πάντοθεν ἐργάζεσθαι τὴν ὠφέλειαν αὐτῶν, ἵνα καὶ τῶν στεφάνων αὐτοῖς ἐκεῖ κοινωνήσωμεν. Ἂν δὲ φιλονεικῆτε, οἱ παῖδες μὲν, ἂν ὦσι γενναῖοι, καὶ ἀκόντων ὑμῶν ἐπὶ ταύτην ἥξουσι τὴν φιλοσοφίαν, καὶ πάντων ἀπολαύσονται τῶν ἀγαθῶν, ὑμῖν δὲ περιέσται τὸ μυρίαν κόλασιν ἑαυτοῖς συναγαγεῖν, καὶ τότε ἐπαινέσαι τὰ παρ' ἡμῶν εἰρημένα, ὅτε τῶν ἐπαίνων ὄφελος ὑμῖν οὐδέν.
