of knowledge, of the last error and of the final beast, according to the prophecy of the holy men who considered these things, from divine inspiration and most blessed illumination, for our protection who have reached the ends of the ages, let us each with all the strength of our own heart keep watch against this very foreign innovation, so that we may not be led away as if carelessly and negligently, but rather standing very earnestly and manfully against all impiety, casting down arguments, to speak in the words of Scripture, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.
For this reason also the Savior of all, our Lord and God, lovingly making us secure; Then, he says, if any one says to you, ‘Lo, here is the Christ,’ or ‘Lo, there,’ do not believe it, sending far away from the mystery concerning him the false and diverse faiths and opinions about him of the perverse, and keeping his own followers from every foreign (opinion), (15A_240> by which those who are contentious and contrary-minded in their ways are accustomed to disturb and at the same time to war against the 0184 sincerity of the confession in him; so that our pious and God-loving mind, being caught by any of these, may not fall away from the truth, being drawn aside by the plausibility of fables, and not being confirmed by the demonstration of patristic words. Watch therefore and pray, the Word exhorts us again for this reason, that you may not enter into temptation; wishing to instill in us, by "watching", the sobriety concerning this, and by "prayer", his assistance according to grace. He speaks here of the temptation that comes from error, not from necessity, into which we are led from our own accord, not from elsewhere, being turned aside from the straight and royal path; which you yourselves, God-guided, travel straight, and wisely guide me, your servant, who am lame in both my knees, bringing me up to the shadowless and eveningless light of the most divine confession and life of the Word, looking to the reward from there. Since a divine law also exhorts those who are strong like you to bear the burdens of the weak, and so to fulfill the law. And a heavy burden above any other difficulty has become the disagreement about these same words, which arises among the more childish, by the changes of times and persons, perhaps by the deceit or threat of those who flatter, fawn, or act severely; and especially in a time of universal anomaly, with things arising uncontrollably. Therefore, do not cease stretching out a compassionate hand to your refugee, on the one hand cleansing him with your word with knowledge; on the other hand strengthening him with prayer with love, and reconciling and bringing him to the God Word and King of all ages, rightly worshipped and believed in by you, both now and at his awesome appearing; to whom with the Father and the Holy Spirit, be honor, might, glory, worship, unto the ages of ages. Amen.
CONCERNING THE TWO WILLS OF THE ONE CHRIST OUR GOD Concerning the 2 wills of the one Christ our God. (15A_242> Other things indeed have been skillfully devised for others for security and adornment at the same time
have been devised, figures and forms; and they seem to be fitting in their appearance to these things, having grown numb to what is hidden through foolishness; but to you, sanctified Father, who have already transferred your thought to an undivided life, virtue, which is artless and surpasses every form and figure, has sufficed for beauty and protection, beautifying so much for you, besides the 0185 unseen, also that which is seen by all, inasmuch as you preferred the desire for what is lasting and never has satiety, over what is dissoluble and of the world (worldly). Or rather, showing it to be so much, as is right, appropriated to God and like him, inasmuch as it showed it to be entirely alienated in relation to matter and the things concerning it, and unlike them. Hence for you there remains also invulnerability against those who do evil. For not
