KINGS OF SICYON The 11th king of Sicyon, Plemnaios, reigned for 50 years, but according to others 48. And it was the year of the world 3667. The 12th king of Sicyon, Orthopolis, reigned for 63 years. And it was the year of the world 3717. The 13th king of Sicyon, Echyreus, reigned for 55 years. And it was the year of the world 3780.
126 YEARS OF THE WORLD 25th Generation, Kohath, 60 years. And it was the year of the world 3602. In the 2nd
year of the famine, the brothers of Joseph went down into Egypt, which was the 39th year of Joseph, the 129th of Jacob, the 47th of Levi, and of the world 3601. And coming to buy grain, they were recognized by him while they did not recognize him, and having been accused of being spies, they left Simeon as a hostage after many defenses; during which were the events concerning Benjamin and the *kondy*, which is a type of cup, and the recognition of Joseph by them. Jacob at the time of his death, prefiguring the life-giving sign of the cross, blessed the sons of Joseph in the form of a cross, placing his hands crosswise, the right upon Ephraim and the left upon Manasseh. But Joseph had placed Manasseh on Jacob's right as the firstborn, and Ephraim on his left. In the 3620th year of the world, and the 18th of Kohath, that is the 57th of the life of Joseph, Jacob died, and he was buried by Joseph and his other children in the double cave at Hebron. And Jacob, having gone down to Joseph in Egypt, was settled in the land of Goshen with 75 souls, which is Arabia near Egypt. 127 Reuben, the first son of Jacob, having lain with his father's concubine, was deprived of the birthright and the priesthood and the kingship, and the sons of Joseph received the birthright on account of their father's chastity, and the kingship was given to Judah, because he too was justified in the matter of a woman, Tamar, condemning himself and not destroying her as an adulteress, and because his tribe was shown to be more ready for the zeal of God and for vengeance. The priesthood was given to Levi, because being the tenth from the last of the sons of Jacob, he was tithed to God with all his father's possessions, as Jacob had prayed, saying: and of all that you give me I will surely give a tenth to you. and because Isaac, looking up when Jacob came from Mesopotamia, and seeing Levi and Judah, blessed the one as a priest, and the other as a king, as Josephus says. Reuben numerous and countless for saving Joseph from being destroyed by his brothers. All those from the 12 tribes are commonly called Israelites, pre-eminently from their father Israel; but Jews because when the others were destroyed, the tribe of Judah was preserved. In the 3661st year of the world, Kohath, being 60 years old, begat Amram; but others say in the 3606th year of the world. 26th Generation, Amram, 75 years. And it was the year of the world 3662. After 70 years of Jacob's descent into Egypt, Joseph died. And it was the year of the world 3672. In the 3672nd year of the world, that is, in the 12th year of the life of Amram, father of Moses, Joseph died, having lived 110 years, as the book of Genesis says thus: and Joseph died, being 110 years old. Up to this 3672nd cosmic year the same God-inspired first book records. Ἰακὼβ δὲ κατελθὼν πρὸς Ἰωσὴφ εἰς Αἴγυπτον ἐν οεʹ ψυχαῖς κατῳκί σθη ἐν γῇ Γεσέμ, ἥτις ἐστὶν ἡ πρὸς τῇ Αἰγύπτῳ Ἀραβία. 127 Ῥουβὴν ὁ πρῶτος υἱὸς Ἰακὼβ συνελθὼν τῇ παλλακῇ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ τῶν τε πρωτοτοκίων ἀφῃρέθη καὶ ἱερωσύνης καὶ βασιλείας, καὶ τὰ μὲν πρωτοτόκια ἔλαβον οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ Ἰωσὴφ διὰ τὴν τοῦ πατρὸς σωφροσύνην, ἡ δὲ βασιλεία τῷ Ἰούδᾳ ἐδόθη, διότι καὶ αὐτὸς ἐν γυναικὶ ἐδικαιώθη τῇ Θάμαρ ἑαυτὸν κατακρίνας καὶ μὴ διαφθείρας αὐτὴν ὡς μοιχαλλίδα, καὶ ὅτι πρὸς ζῆλον θεοῦ καὶ ἐκδίκησιν ἑτοιμοτέρα ἡ τούτου δέδεικται φυλή. ἱερωσύνη τῷ Λευὶ ἐδόθη, ὅτι δέκατος ὑπάρχων ἀπὸ τοῦ ἐσχάτου τῶν υἱῶν Ἰακὼβ σὺν πᾶσι τοῖς ὑπάρχουσι τοῦ πατρὸς τῷ θεῷ ἀπεδεκατώθη, καθὼς προσηύξατο ὁ Ἰακὼβ λέγων· καὶ πάντα ὅσα ἄν μοι δῷς ἀποδεκα τώσω αὐτά. καὶ ὅτι ὁ Ἰσαὰκ ἀναβλέψας ὅτε παρεγένετο ὁ Ἰακὼβ ἐκ Μεσοποταμίας, καὶ ἰδὼν τὸν Λευὶ καὶ τὸν Ἰούδαν, εὐλόγησε τὸν μὲν ὡς ἱερέα, τὸν δὲ ὡς βασιλέα, καθά φησιν Ἰώσηππος. Ῥουβὴν πολὺς καὶ ἀναρίθμητος διὰ τὸ περισῶσαι τὸν Ἰωσὴφ ἐκ τῶν ἀδελφῶν ἀφανιζόμενον. Ἰσραηλῖται κοινῶς λέγονται πάντες οἱ ἐκ τῶν ιβʹ φυλῶν κατ' ἐξοχὴν ἐκ τοῦ πατρὸς Ἰσραήλ· Ἰουδαῖοι δὲ ὅτι τῶν λοιπῶν διαφθαρεισῶν ἡ τοῦ Ἰούδα διεφυλάχθη φυλή. Τῷ γχξαʹ ἔτει τοῦ κόσμου ἐγέννησεν ὁ Καὰθ τὸν Ἄμβραμ, ξʹ ἔτος ἄγων· ἕτεροι δὲ τῷ γχ ςʹ ἔτει τοῦ κόσμου φασίν. Γενεὰ κ ςʹ Ἄμβραμ ἔτη οεʹ. τοῦ δὲ κόσμου ἦν ἔτος γχξβʹ. Μετὰ οʹ ἔτη τῆς καθόδου τοῦ Ἰακὼβ ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ ἐτελεύτησεν Ἰωσήφ. τοῦ δὲ κόσμου ἦν ἔτος γχοβʹ. Τῷ γχοβʹ ἔτει τοῦ κόσμου, ἤγουν τῷ ιβʹ τῆς ζωῆς Ἄμβραμ πατρὸς Μωυσέως, ἐτελεύτησεν Ἰωσὴφ ζήσας ἔτη ριʹ, ὥς φησιν ἡ βίβλος τῆς Γενέσεως οὕτως· καὶ ἐτελεύτησεν Ἰωσὴφ ὢν ἐτῶν ριʹ. ἕως τούτου τοῦ γχοβʹ κοσμικοῦ ἔτους ἱστορεῖ ἡ αὐτὴ θεόπνευστος πρώτη βίβλος.
