Cainan, in the 625th year of the world, the 705th of Seth, and he lived on for 715 years until the 1340th year of the world. In his 475th year Adam died, and in his 707th, Seth. Cainan, having become 170 years old, begot Mahalalel in the 775th year of the world, the 565th year of Seth, and the 360th of Enos; and he lived on for 740 years until the 1535th year of the world. In his 305th year Adam died, in his 517th Seth, and in his 715th Enos. Mahalalel, having become 165 years old, begot Jared in the 960th year of the world, the 730th of Seth, the 525th of Enos, the 335th of Cainan, and he lived on for 730 years until the 1697th year of the world. In his 135th year Adam died, in his 347th Seth, and in the 545th of the same Mahalalel, Enos; and in his 740th year Cainan his father. Jared, having become 162 years old, begot Enoch, in the 1122nd year of the world, which was the 862nd of Seth, the 687th of Enos, the 477th of Cainan, and the 327th of Mahalalel. This same Jared lived on for 800 years until the 1922nd year of the world. In the 182nd year of this same Jared, Seth died, and Enos in the 380th, and Cainan in the 575th of this Jared; and Mahalalel his father dies in the 730th year of Jared. Enoch, having become 165 years old, begot Methuselah in the 1287th year of the world. In his 20th year, I mean of Enoch, Seth died. And it was the year of Enos, in which Enoch begot Methuselah, the 852nd, and of Cainan the 662nd, and of Mahalalel the 462nd, and of Jared the 327th. This Enoch lived on after he begot Methuselah, being seen by the people of that time for 200 years, and having pleased God he was translated and was not found. And he was translated in the 1487th year of the world. Therefore, in his 20th year, as has been said before, Seth passed away. And in the 218th year of Enoch, Enos died. Methuselah, having become 167 years old, begot Lamech in the 1454th year of the world, which was the 829th year of Cainan, the 659th of Mahalalel, the 464th year of Jared, and the 332nd year of Enoch. And the same Methuselah, after begetting Lamech, lived on for 802 years until the 2256th year of the world. This man became the longest-lived of all those who had died before him. This man, according to the books of Genesis everywhere, survived the flood by 15 years, so that it is a difficult question where he was saved in the flood. But some say, of whom Eusebius is one, that some of the copies have it that he lived on 782 years after begetting him, so that the entire time of his life becomes 949 years, which does not seem to be correct. For according to this account the sacred books of Genesis throughout all the churches of God will have been mistaken, which record 969 years for Methuselah; and Jared, having lived 962 years, will be longer-lived than him by 13 years, with which no one has agreed. Therefore one should not, on account of saying that he perished with those in the flood, for this reason say that he lived only 949 years. But neither are we persuaded by Africanus, who adds the same 20 years and gives 89 for Methuselah instead of 69. Therefore, it seems to be better to follow the sacred books throughout the whole world and say 969 for the life of Methuselah, even if he did survive the flood by 15 years, with God perhaps having preserved him also, like Enoch, miraculously in ways and places that He knows. Lamech, having become 188 years old, begot Noah in the 1642nd year of the world, which was the 847th year of Mahalalel, the 682nd of Jared, and the 520th of Enoch, which is the 155th year after his translation. And this same year was reckoned as the 355th of Methuselah. And Lamech lived on after he begot Noah for 535 years until the 2175th year of the world, and he died 68 years before the flood. This same Lamech was the first among the patriarchs to die before his own father Methuselah, by 81 years, that is, in the 888th year of Methuselah, the eighth from Adam. And in the 236th year of Lamech, Mahalalel died, and Jared in the 468th year of the same Lamech. However, the divine Enoch was translated in the 33rd year of Lamech. Noah at 500 years old begot Shem, Ham, and Japheth in the 2141st year of the world. And in the 49th year of Noah, Mahalalel died, and Jared in the 280th of Noah.

Μαθουσάλα γενόμενος ἐτῶν ρξζʹ ἐγέννησε τὸν Λάμεχ τῷ αυνδʹ ἔτει τοῦ κόσμου, ὅπερ ἦν τοῦ μὲν Καϊνᾶν ἔτος ωκθʹ, τοῦ δὲ Μαλελεὴλ χνθʹ, τοῦ δὲ Ἰάρεδ ἔτος υ ζδʹ, τοῦ δὲ Ἐνὼχ τλβʹ ἔτος. ὁ δ' αὐτὸς Μαθουσάλα μετὰ τὸ γεννῆσαι τὸν Λάμεχ ἐπέζησεν ἔτη ωβʹ μέχρι τοῦ βσν ςʹ ἔτους τοῦ κόσμου. οὗτος μακροβιώτατος πάντων τῶν πρὸ αὐτοῦ ἀποθανόντων γέ 131 γονεν. οὗτος κατὰ τὰς ἁπανταχοῦ τῆς Γενέσεως βίβλους ὑπερέβη τὸν κατα κλυσμὸν ἔτεσι ιεʹ, ὡς ἄπορον εἶναι ποῦ διεσώθη ἐν τῷ κατακλυσμῷ. Τινὲς δέ φασιν, ὧν εἷς καὶ ὁ Εὐσέβιος, ἔχειν τινὰ τῶν ἀντιγράφων ὅτι ψπβʹ ἔτη ἐπέζησε μετὰ τὸ γεννῆσαι αὐτόν, ὡς γίνεσθαι τὸν πάντα τῆς ζωῆς αὐτοῦ χρόνον ἔτη μθʹ. ὅπερ οὐκ εὖ ἔχειν δοκεῖ. ἔσονται γὰρ κατὰ τοῦτον τὸν λόγον αἱ ἀνὰ πάσας τὰς ἐκκλησίας τοῦ θεοῦ ἱεραὶ βίβλοι τῆς Γενέσεως διεσφαλμέναι, ξθʹ ἔτη ἱστοροῦσαι τὸν Μαθουσάλα· ἔσται δὲ καὶ Ἰάρεδ μακροβιώτερος αὐτοῦ ἔτη ιγʹ, ξβʹ ζήσας ἔτη, ὅπερ οὐδενὶ συμπεφώνηται. διόπερ οὐ χρὴ διὰ τὸ φάναι συναπολέσθαι αὐτὸν τοῖς ἐν τῷ κατακλυσμῷ, διὰ τοῦτο μθʹ μόνα ἔτη βεβιωκέναι. Ἀλλὰ οὐδὲ τῷ Ἀφρικανῷ πειθόμεθα προστιθέντι τὰ αὐτὰ κʹ ἔτη καὶ πθʹ λέγοντι τοῦ Μαθουσάλα ἀντὶ ξθʹ. λοιπὸν οὖν κρεῖσσον εἶναι δοκεῖ ταῖς καθ' ὅλην τὴν οἰκουμένην ἑπομένους ἱεραῖς βίβλοις ξθʹ λέγειν τῆς ζωῆς Μαθουσάλα, εἰ καὶ τὸν κατακλυσμὸν ὑπερβέβηκεν ἔτεσι ιεʹ, τοῦ θεοῦ κἀκεῖνον ἴσως, ὡς τὸν Ἐνώχ, περισώσαντος παραδόξως καθ' οὓς οἶδε τρόπους καὶ τόπους. Λάμεχ γενόμενος ἐτῶν ρπηʹ ἐγέννησε τὸν Νῶε τῷ αχμβʹ ἔτει τοῦ κόσμου, ὅπερ ἦν τοῦ Μαλελεὴλ μὲν ἔτος ωμζʹ, τοῦ δ' Ἰάρεδ χπβʹ, τοῦ δ' Ἐνὼχ φκʹ, ὅπερ ἐστὶ μετὰ τὴν μετάθεσιν αὐτοῦ ἔτος ρνεʹ. τὸ αὐτὸ δ' ἔτος τνεʹ ἐχρημάτιζε τοῦ Μαθουσάλα. ἐπέζησε δὲ Λάμεχ μετὰ τὸ γεννῆσαι αὐτὸν τὸν Μαθουσάλα ἔτη φλεʹ μέχρι τοῦ βροεʹ κοσμικοῦ ἔτους, καὶ ἀπέ θανε πρὸ ξηʹ ἐτῶν τοῦ κατακλυσμοῦ. ὁ αὐτὸς Λάμεχ πρῶτος ἐν τοῖς γεν άρχαις ἀπέθανε πρὸ τοῦ ἰδίου πατρὸς Μαθουσάλα ἔτεσιν παʹ, τοῦτ' ἔστι τῷ ωπηʹ τοῦ ὀγδόου ἐξ Ἀδὰμ Μαθουσάλα ἔτει. κατὰ δὲ τὸ σλςʹ ἔτος τοῦ Λάμεχ ὁ Μαλελεὴλ ἀπέθανεν, ὁ δὲ Ἰάρεδ κατὰ τὸ υξηʹ τοῦ αὐτοῦ Λάμεχ ἔτος. ὁ μέντοι θεῖος Ἐνὼχ τῷ λγʹ ἔτει τοῦ Λάμεχ μετετέθη. Νῶε ἐτῶν φʹ ἐγέννησε τὸν Σήμ, τὸν Χάμ, τὸν Ἰάφεθ βρμαʹ ἔτει τοῦ κόσμου, τοῦ δὲ Νῶε ἔτει μθʹ Μαλελεὴλ ἀπέθανεν, ὁ δὲ Ἰάρεδ τῷ σπʹ τοῦ Νῶε.
