in the war. For from Molossus, the son of Pyrrhus and Andromache, was descended Olympias, the mother of the same Alexander of Macedon. And immediately, rushing from there like a leopard, Alexander, together with his generals, took possession of all the lands. And having conquered Darius, king of the Persians, the son of Assalamus, he seized him and his entire kingdom and all the land of the Assyrians and Medes and Parthians and Babylonians and Persians and all the kingdoms of the earth, just as the most wise Bottius wrote, the same Alexander having liberated the cities and the lands and all the earth of the Romans and Greeks and Egyptians from the subjugation and slavery of the Assyrians and Persians and Parthians and Medes, giving back to the Romans all that they had lost. It is therefore from Adam until the victory of Alexander of Macedon 194 5557 years. And at that time the high priest of the Jews was Adduus. And then the Persian regions and its kingdoms were dissolved, and the Macedonians and Alexander with his allies overpowered the land of the Chaldeans and Medes and Persians and Parthians; and having conquered and killed Darius, they entered the palace of the same Darius. And the same Alexander gave laws to their land and reigned over them; and the Persians raised for him an equestrian bronze stele in Babylon, which stands until now. The same Alexander, having taken Roxane, the daughter of Darius the king of the Persians, captive, being a virgin, took her to wife. And the same Alexander also took possession of all the Indian regions and their kingdoms, having also taken Porus the king of the Indians captive; and all the other kingdoms of the nations except for the kingdom of Candace, the widow who reigned over the inner Indians; who captured the same Alexander in this manner. The same Alexander had a custom of entering among the ambassadors sent by him to the enemy kings in the guise of a soldier and seeing what that king was like. But Queen Candace, having learned this, investigated what he looked like and what distinguishing marks he had. And it was said to her that he is 195 short, having large and prominent teeth, and having one grey-blue eye and one black. And she noted these things to herself; and so when he entered before her along with the ambassadors sent by him, recognizing him from the distinguishing marks, she detained him and said to him, King Alexander, you have taken the whole world; and one woman has taken you. And Alexander said to her, Because of the earnestness and excellence of your wisdom I will keep you and your land and your sons unharmed, and I take you to wife. Candace, having heard this, gave herself to him; and Alexander immediately took her with him and went into Ethiopia and to other lands. And when the same Alexander was about to die, he commanded that all his defenders and allies with him should reign over the same land where he had left them and hold the places there. And the same Alexander lived 36 years, and reigned, having subjected all things, for 17 years, and his war lasted 9 years, and he subdued 22 barbarian nations, 13 Greek tribes, and he and those with him founded many cities. It is therefore from Adam until the death of Alexander of Macedon 5563 years, as Theophilus the chronographer wrote. Therefore, after the death of Alexander of Macedon, the lands which the same Alexander had subdued along with his allies were divided into four toparchies, that is, kingdoms; and the 196 Macedonians who were the fellow-shield-bearers of the same Alexander reigned over them just as he had commanded thus. that Philip the brother should hold and reign over Macedonia and all of Europe
