The thrice-shining light that dwelt in your soul, showed you to be a chosen vessel, all-blessed one. For you clarify divine things to the ends of the earth, and the explanation of concepts difficult to attain, O blessed Maximus, proclaiming clearly to all the super-essential, unoriginate Trinity.
The Oikos. The foundation of priests, the basis of doctrines, the trumpet of wisdom, of martyrs the
summit and the support of the faithful rises before the world, Maximus the wondrous, through his divine memory today. Therefore, rise up, all of you, to his radiance, praising the boldness and the zeal which he showed for piety, for which he, as a true shepherd for his flock, steadfastly arrayed himself against the wolves, whom he cast down, and was crowned with the prizes of victory; proclaiming clearly to all the super-essential, unoriginate Trinity.
(217) Glory. Tone 3. The beauty. The achievements of your life, illumine the steps of all, Maximus,
truly a father to those who imitate you in faith; wherefore, those who bless you out of longing, always save by your intercessions from every affliction, entreating Christ the good, O blessed and most wondrous one.
Ode 4. I have heard, O Lord. The earth-born honor you, and the ranks of the heaven-dwellers marvel; by the love of
wisdom for you were shown, Father, to be as if without flesh. Reckless was the tyrant; but your endurance was dauntless; wherefore you indeed
have been blessed; but he, Father, has been ostracized. Struggling with you, Maximus, was the all-blessed pair of disciples, with you in the contests
having shared; wherefore they also received equal prizes. Being watered by the flow of your blood, the Church of Christ, blossoms forth
the patristically-handed-down dogma of your divine seed, O holy one. Theotokion. You who as an unplowed field brought forth the life-giving ear of corn, the one who provides to the
world life, O Theotokos, save those who hymn you. Ode 5. Rising early we cry to you. He who gathered the knowledge of earthly and heavenly things, is justly called a philosopher,
Maximus. By the love of the better wisdom, you were seen to be a most excellent imitator of your Christ,
O famed Maximus. By the madness of the tyrant you were sent into exile; but you found, O Blessed one, Jesus
as your consolation. Theotokion. Calm the unstable surge of my passions, you who gave birth to God the
Helmsman and Lord. Ode 6. The Heirmos. Grant me a shining tunic, O You who are arrayed in light as
a garment, O most-merciful Christ our God. Offering unceasing prayer to God, O God-bearer, from the passions of both soul and body and from
corruption, deliver us.
