what agreement has the temple of God with idols? The opposition between the merciful and the cruel is unmixable. Darkness does not endure the presence of light; sickness does not stand when health takes hold; the passions are not active when dispassion is present; death is gone, corruption unseen, when life reigns in us, and incorruption has the dominion. Let your will be done in me, so that the will of the devil may be extinguished. For just as in gloomy caves, when light is brought in, the gloom disappears, so when your will is done in me, every wicked and improper movement of the will is reduced to non-existence. Pleasure does not admit pain, nor grief joy, nor dejection gladness, nor again does prevailing pain accept pleasure, nor does conquering grief have joy yoked with it, nor is gladness mixed with dejection. For the contrary passions are unentangled with each other, and would never come to the same thing; nor will they ever be held hostage to a friendly communion, on account of their natural, implacable enmity and alienation. It is impossible for the love of the world to coexist with the love of God, just as it is impossible for light and darkness to coexist with each other

ELEMENT B.

TITLE 1. -Concerning the kingdom of heaven. Seek the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and these things

all will be added to you. From the days of John the Baptist the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid, and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field. - The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls; who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers, and so on. Jesus answered and spoke to them again in 95.1261 parables, saying: The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. And he sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding, and they were not willing to come; again he sent other servants, saying: Tell those who are invited, ‘See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready; come to the wedding.’ But they paid no attention and went off, one to his own work, another to his business; the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. When that king heard about it, he was enraged, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. Then he said to his servants: ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.’ Go therefore to the main roads, and invite to the wedding whomever you find. And those servants went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; and the wedding hall was filled with guests; and the rest of the passage. Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom, and the rest. The Lord said: The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he knows not how. For the earth yields fruit by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. But when the grain is ripe, immediately he sends the
