a sickle, for the harvest has come. He said: To what shall I compare the kingdom of God? or with what parable shall we compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth, and when it is sown, it grows up greater than all herbs, and shoots out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under its shadow. Through much tribulation we must enter into the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and joy in the Holy Spirit. For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power. Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor revilers, nor drunkards, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. A man being perfected, is raised to the dignity of the angels. The sound of those celebrating there, where the dwelling of all who rejoice is, I think to be nothing other than this, God being hymned and glorified by those deemed worthy of the life there. 95.1264 Just as there are different choices of life, so too there are other mansions with God, apportioned to each according to his worth. And let one achieve this virtue, and another all of them, if it be possible; only let him journey, and strive for what is ahead, and follow at the heels of the one who guides and directs well, and through the narrow way and gate leads to the breadth of the blessedness there. I must be buried with Christ, rise with Christ, be a co-heir with Christ, become a son of God, god himself. The prize of virtue, to become god, and to be illumined by the purest light. -The faithful and indubitable aspect of the grace that is hoped for becomes enjoyment for those who wait for it with patience. The dignity of the kingdom has no tyranny superior to itself. -Affliction is the flower of the good things that are expected. For the sake of the fruit, let us gather the flower. The kingdom of God is not for those who are sleeping and lazy, but the violent take it by force. For this alone is a good violence, to do violence to God, and to snatch life from God. But he, knowing those who hold on firmly, or rather violently, yielded and gave way. For God rejoices in being conquered in such things. The incorruptible kingdom has no desire, but the presence of all good things. Whence it is not possible to desire; for to desire comes from lacking; but to desire nothing comes from having all things. -The kingdom of God must be called the state of those living according to the divine laws.
TITLE II. -Concerning the counsel of God; and that it is unchangeable, and unattainable for men
exists. The Lord brings the counsel of the heathen to nought: he makes the devices of the people of none effect. As terrible in
counsels above the sons of men. There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand. What God the holy one has purposed, who shall scatter? and his high hand, who shall turn it back? Thus says the Lord of Sabaoth, saying: As I have spoken, so shall it be; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand. -Where are your wise men? and let them tell you what the Lord of Sabaoth has purposed. Who has known the mind of the Lord? or who has been his counselor, 95.1265 that he might instruct him? Or with whom took he counsel, and who instructed him? The everlasting God, who has prepared the ends of the earth. He shall not hunger, neither shall he be weary: there is no searching of his understanding. I am God, and there is none else beside me. All my counsel shall stand, and I will do all that I have purposed: I have spoken, and I have brought it to pass; I have created and I have done it. My word that goes forth out of my mouth shall not return to me void, until it shall accomplish all that I have willed. What man can know the counsel of God? or who can think what the will of the Lord is? for the thoughts of mortal men are miserable, and our devices are but uncertain. For hardly do we guess aright at things that are upon earth, and with labor do we find the things that are before us

Ἔλεγε· Τίνι ὁμοιώσω τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ; ἢ ἐν ποίᾳ παραβολῇ παραβάλλομεν αὐτήν; Ὡς κόκκῳ σινάπεως, ὃς ὅταν σπαρῇ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, μικρότερον πάντων τῶν σπερμάτων τῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἐστι, καὶ ὅταν σπαρῇ, ἀναβαίνει πάντων τῶν λαχάνων μείζων, καὶ ποιεῖ κλάδους μεγάλους, ὥστε δύνασθαι ὑπὸ τὴν σκιὰν αὐτοῦ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ κατασκηνοῦν. ∆ιὰ πολλῶν θλίψεων δεῖ ἡμᾶς εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ. Οὐκ ἔστιν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ βρῶσις καὶ πόσις, ἀλλὰ δικαιοσύνη καὶ χαρὰ ἐν Πνεύματι ἁγίῳ. Οὐκ ἐν λόγῳ ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἀλλ' ἐν δυνάμει. Ἢ οὐκ οἴδατε, ὅτι ἄδικοι βασιλείαν Θεοῦ οὐ κληρονομήσουσι; Μὴ πλανᾶσθε· οὔτε πόρνοι, οὔτε εἰδωλολάτραι, οὔτε μοιχοὶ, οὔτε μαλακοὶ, οὔτε ἀρσενοκοῖται, οὔτε λοίδοροι, οὐ μέθυσοι, οὐχ ἅρπαγες, βασιλείαν Θεοῦ κληρονομήσουσι. Τελειούμενος ἄνθρωπος, εἰς τὴν τῶν ἀγγέλων ἀξίαν ἀνάγεται. Τὸν ἐκεῖθεν τῶν ἑορταζόντων ἦχον, ἔνθα εὐφραινομένων πάντων ἡ κατοικία, οὐκ ἄλλο τι, ἢ τοῦτο εἶναι νομίζω, Θεὸν ὑμνούμενόν τε καὶ δοξαζόμενον τοῖς τῆς ἐκεῖσε πολιτείας ἠξιωμένοις. 95.1264 Ὥσπερ διάφοροι βίων αἱρέσεις, οὕτως καὶ μοναὶ ἄλλαι παρὰ τῷ Θεῷ κατὰ τὴν ἀξίαν ἑκάστῳ μεριζόμεναι. Χριστῷ συνταφῆναί με δεῖ, Χριστῷ συναναστῆναι, συγκληρονομῆσαι Χριστῷ, υἱὸν γενέσθαι Θεοῦ, θεὸν αὐτόν. Ἆθλον ἀρετῆς, θεὸν γενέσθαι, καὶ τῷ καθαρωτάτῳ φωτὶ καταστράπτεσθαι. -Τὸ πιστὸν καὶ ἀναμφίβολον τῆς ἐλπιζομένης χάριτος, ἀπόλαυσις τοῖς δι' ὑπομονῆς ἀπεκδεχομένοις γίνεται. Ἡ τῆς βασιλείας ἀξία, ὑπερκειμένην ἑαυτῆς τυραννίδα οὐκ ἔχει. -Τῶν προσδοκωμένων ἀγαθῶν ἡ θλίψις ἄνθος ἐστίν. ∆ιὰ τὸν καρπὸν τὸ ἄνθος δρεψώμεθα. Οὐ τῶν καθευδόντων καὶ βλακευόντων ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἀλλ' οἱ βιασταὶ ἁρπάζουσιν αὐτήν. Αὕτη γὰρ μόνη βία καλὴ, Θεὸν βιάσασθαι, καὶ παρὰ Θεοῦ ζωὴν ἁρπάσαι. Ὁ δὲ γνοὺς τοὺς βεβαίως, μᾶλλον δὲ βιαίως ἀντεχομένους, συνεχώρησε καὶ εἶξε. Χαίρει γὰρ ὁ Θεὸς τὰ τοιαῦτα ἡττώμενος. Οὐκ ἔχει ἐπιθυμίαν ἡ ἄφθαρτος βασιλεία, ἀλλὰ παρουσίαν πάντων τῶν ἀγαθῶν. Ὅθεν οὐκ ἔστιν ἐπιθυμῆσαι· ἐκ γὰρ τοῦ ὑστερεῖν, τὸ ἐπιθυμεῖν ἐστιν· ἐκ δὲ τοῦ πάντα ἔχειν, τὸ μηδενὸς ἐπιθυμεῖν ἐστι. -Βασιλείαν Θεοῦ λεκτέον, τὴν κατάστασιν τῶν κατὰ τοὺς θείους νόμους βιούντων.
ΤΙΤΛ. Βʹ. -Περὶ βουλῆς Θεοῦ· καὶ ὅτι ἄτρεπτος, καὶ ἀνέφικτος ἀνθρώποις
ὑπάρχει. Κύριος διασκεδάζει βουλὰς ἐθνῶν, ἀθετεῖ δὲ λογισμοὺς λαῶν. Ὡς φοβερὸς ἐν
βουλαῖς ὑπὲρ τοὺς υἱοὺς ἀνθρώπων. Πολλοὶ λογισμοὶ ἐν καρδίᾳ ἀνθρώπου· ἡ δὲ βουλὴ τοῦ Θεοῦ μένει εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα. Ἃ ὁ Θεὸς ἅγιος βεβούλευται, τίς διασκεδάσει; καὶ τὴν χεῖρα τὴν ὑψηλὴν τίς ἀποστρέψει; Τάδε λέγει Κύριος Σαβαὼθ, λέγων· Ὃν τρόπον εἴρηκα, οὕτως ἔσται, καὶ ὃν τρόπον βεβούλευμαι, οὕτως μενεῖ. -Ποῦ εἰσιν οἱ σοφοί σου; καὶ ἀναγγειλάτωσάν σοι ὅ τι βεβούλευται Κύριος Σαβαώθ. Τίς ἔγνω νοῦν Κυρίου, ἢ τίς σύμβουλος αὐτοῦ 95.1265 ἐγένετο, ὃς συμβιβάσει αὐτόν; ἢ πρὸς τίνα συνεβουλεύσατο, καὶ συνεβίβασεν αὐτόν; Θεὸς αἰώνιος ὁ κατασκευάσας τὰ ἄκρα τῆς γῆς. Οὐ πεινάσει, οὐδὲ κοπιάσει, οὐδὲ ἔστιν ἐξεύρεσις τῆς φρονήσεως αὐτοῦ. Ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ Θεὸς, καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἄλλος πλὴν ἐμοῦ. Πᾶσα ἡ βουλή μου στήσεται, καὶ πάντα ὅσα βεβούλευμαι, ποιήσω· ἐλάλησα, καὶ ἤγαγον· ἔκτισα καὶ ἐποίησα αὐτό. Τὸ ῥῆμά μου ὃ ἐὰν ἐξέλθῃ ἐκ τοῦ στόματός μου, οὐ μὴ ἀποστραφῇ πρός με κενὸν, ἕως ἂν συντελέσῃ πάντα ὅσα ἠθέλησα. Τίς ἀνδρῶν γνώσεται βουλὴν Θεοῦ; ἢ τίς ἐνθυμηθήσεται τί θέλει ὁ Κύριος; λογισμοὶ γὰρ θνητῶν δειλοὶ, καὶ ἐπισφαλεῖς αἱ ἐπίνοιαι αὐτῶν. Μόλις γὰρ εἰκάζομεν τὰ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, καὶ τὰ ἐν χερσὶν εὑρίσκομεν
