Still your blood like Abel's, and for ages the divinely inspired dogmas the Church of Christ proclaims with a piercing voice, O Maximus, all-blessed and all-greatest.

Your hand has been cut off; but it writes with a divine finger, as with a reed pen and ink, with your severed tongue with your holy blood, O all-blessed one, the orthodox faith in hearts.

(221) The divine boldness is revered in the world and the heartfelt fire of divine love, for which, O holy one, the shedding of blood, Maximus, you most readily endured.

Stand before the divine tribunal with the martyrs, with whom you shared in the zeal of the faith, O Father, and making us familiar to the Master, and making us imitators of you.

Theot. You are, O Theotokos, our weapons and wall; you are the help of those who unto you

run for refuge. You we now also move to intercession, that we may be delivered from our enemies.

EXAPOSTEILARION. Women, hear ye. The depths of your judgments have been searched by the Spirit; but the things of the Spirit,

O Savior, in spirit and power Maximus has searched out, as a just Philosopher, proclaiming your two wills and energies. Therefore he is now gloriously honored.

(221) Αἴδεται ἐν κόσμῳ ἡ ἔνθεος παῤῥησία καί τό πῦρ τό ἐγκάρδιον τῆς ἐνθέου ἀγάπης, δι᾿ ἥν, ὅσιε, τήν τοῦ αἵματος χύσιν, Μάξιμε, ὑπέστης προθυμότατα.

Ἵστασο πρό βήματος θείου μετά μαρτύρων, οἷς τοῦ ζήλου τῆς πίστεως ἐκοινώνησας, Πάτερ, καί ἡμᾶς οἰκειῶν τῷ ∆εσπότῃ, καί σοῦ μιμητάς ἐργαζόμενος.

Θεοτ. Σύ εἶ, Θεοτόκε, τά ὅπλα ἡμῶν καί τεῖχος· σύ εἶ ἡ ἀντίληψις τῶν εἰς σέ

προστρεχόντων. Σέ καί νῦν εἰς πρεσβείαν κινοῦμεν, ἵνα λυτρωθῶμεν τῶν ἐχθρῶν ἡμῶν.

ΕΞΑΠΟΣΤΕΙΛΑΡΙΟΝ. Γυναῖκες, ἀκουτίσθητε. Τά βάθη τῶν κριμάτων σου ἠρεύνηται τῷ Πνεύματι· τά δέ τοῦ Πνεύματος,

Σῶτερ, ἐν πνεύματι καί δυνάμει Μάξιμος ἐξηρεύνησεν, ὡς ἔνδικος Φιλόσοφος, θελήσεις ἐνεργείας τε ἀνακηρύττων σου δύο. ∆ιό λαμπρῶς νῦν τιμᾶται.

Τῷ αὐτῷ μηνί ιγ΄. Ἡ μετάθεσις τοῦ λειψάνου τοῦ ὁσίου Πατρός ἡμῶν Μαξίμου

τοῦ ὁμολογητοῦ. Κινοῦσί σου Μάξιμε, πιστοί τήν κόνιν, ∆ηλοῦντες ὡς γῆς ἐξαμείβοντος τόπους. Μαξίμου, ἀμφί τήν τρισκαιδεκάτην μετετέθης·
