the incarnate Word having said to the disciples: receive the Holy Spirit. For the one God in a monad, through the one substance and divinity, is known in a triad through the hypostases. The soul is said to be embittered when nothing sweet and pleasant and alluring is present to it. 27, 56 For I will not put away my innocence. And holding to righteousness I will not forsake it; for I am not conscious of having done anything amiss. For I will not put away from myself my innocence and simplicity, nor will I betray righteousness, nor having other things in mind and being conscious of nothing in myself contrary to the true and the just will I speak other things. 27, 7 Nevertheless, may my enemies be like the destruction of the ungodly, and those who rise up against me like the perdition of the lawless. I, therefore, he says, am conscious of nothing in myself; but what you condemn in me as ungodly, may it be turned upon the heads of my enemies. 27, 810 For what is the hope of the ungodly, that he endures? Trusting in the Lord, will he be saved? Or will the Lord hear his prayer? Or 227 when necessity comes upon him, does he not have some boldness before him? Or as he calls upon him, will he hear him? For what hope, he says, has the ungodly one, even if for a time he endures? With what confidence does he expect salvation from God? And how, when fallen into necessity, will he with boldness call upon God as if his prayer were about to be heard? 27, 11 But now I will declare to you what is in the hand of the Lord; what is with the Almighty, I will not lie. And I will declare to you also the things brought upon the ungodly by the hand of the Lord. 27, 1213 Behold, you all know that you add empty things to empty things. This is the portion of an ungodly man from the Lord, and the possession of the powerful shall come upon them from the Almighty. You then, he says, know that you string together vain words with vain things, indicting me for ungodliness. But I say, what is the portion of the ungodly, and what possession and what inheritance of those who are very powerful in wickedness, and what will come upon them from the all-powerful God. 27, 1415 And if their sons become many, they will be for the slaughter; and if they grow up, they will beg. And those of his who survive will end in death, and no one will have mercy on their widows. He speaks of the things likely to happen to the ungodly. For these things will not entirely 228 happen to them; for they sometimes prolong their good fortune even to the end, as he himself, being at a loss, taught in what was said above to his friends. And by slaughter he means that which is by enemies, and by death, that which is sudden and untimely. 27, 1617 Though he heap up silver like dust, and prepare gold like clay, the just shall possess all these things, and the truthful shall hold his wealth. This happened, as we also said in the things before, when because of the sins of the Amorites and Canaanites and the rest, the people of the Hebrews inherited their possessions. 27, 18 And his house has come to be like moths and like a spider's web. being consumed by themselves; for ungodliness, like rust, consumes those who possess it. 27, 19 A rich man will lie down and will not add to it; he opened his eyes and is no more. because of the fleeting nature of enjoyment; for having gazed for a short time at his own wealth, he will be gone to pay the penalty. 27, pains met him like water. so that he might say: and pains will seize this man even to his entrails, which David also said concerning the accursed: it entered like water into his entrails. 229 27, and at night darkness has stolen him away. And his affairs will be as in the night, full of darkness, and evils will surround him circularly like a thick cloud. 27, 21 a burning wind shall take him up, and he shall depart, and it shall winnow him from his place. And he will be gone, he says, as if blown away and fanned by a burning wind. And he well said "burning," for unquenchable fire awaits him. To winnow is to toss up the wheat with a shovel, separating the chaffy and light part from the wheat by the breezes of the winds. When the threshing floor is cleared, therefore, the wheat is stored in the granaries, but the chaff is burned with unquenchable fire, as the gospel parable says. 27, 22 And he will cast upon him and will not spare. as

ὡς
