salvation is vanity and complete non-existence; for it is right that vanity be understood as this.

“In God we shall do mightily, and He will bring to nothing those who afflict us.”

They do mightily in God who do not ascribe to themselves (14Α_386> the achievements of the virtues nor to their own wisdom the comprehension of the divine mysteries, in whom God 'Himself', by Himself alone and wholly pervading, works every virtue and bestows knowledge, 'bringing to nothing' all who are opposed to both virtue and knowledge: the wicked demons, and those who through evil and ignorance attempt 'to afflict' those who fear Him. For He is the Savior of all, because He is also the Creator of all. To Him be the glory and the power unto the ages of ages, amen.

σωτηρία ματαιότης ἐστὶ καὶ παντελὴς ἀνυπαρξία· τοῦτο γὰρ δίκαιον νοεῖσθαι τὴν ματαιότητα.

«Ἐν τῷ Θεῷ ποιήσωμεν δύναμιν καὶ αὐτὸς ἐξουδενώσει τοὺς θλίβοντας ἡμᾶς».

Ἐν τῷ Θεῷ ποιοῦσι δύναμιν οἱ μὴ ἐπιγράφοντες ἑαυτοῖς (14Α_386> τῶν ἀρετῶν τὰ κατορθώματα μηδὲ τῇ ἑαυτῶν σοφίᾳ τὴν τῶν θείων μυστηρίων κατάληψιν, ἐν οἷς 'αὐτὸς' ὁ Θεὸς μονώτατος καὶ ὅλως χωρῶν, πᾶσαν ἀρετὴν ἐργάζεται καὶ χαρίζεται γνῶσιν, 'ἐξουδενῶν' πάντας τοὺς ἀντικειμένους τῇ τε ἀρετῇ καὶ τῇ γνώσει πονηροὺς δαίμονας καὶ διὰ κακίας καὶ ἀγνωσίας 'ἐκθλίβειν' ἐπιχειροῦντας τοὺς φοβουμένους αὐτόν. Αὐτὸς γὰρ πάντων ὑπάρχει Σωτήρ, ὅτι καὶ πάντων ∆ημιουργός. Αὐτῷ ἡ δόξα καὶ τὸ κράτος εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων ἀμήν.
