Greg. Nyss. The harvest is worthy of your sowing. Did you sow bitterness? reap the sheaves? Did you honor mercilessness? have what you loved. Did you flee mercy? Mercy will flee you. Did you abhor the poor man? He who for our sake became poor will abhor you.
(15E_342>Of Philo. It is not from God for a wicked man to lose the good reward for one good deed, when it was not done with many good deeds; nor again for a good man to lose the punishment and not receive it, even against many good deeds, if something wicked occurs. For it is necessary for God to render all things by scale and weight.
To be punished here is not evil, but to become worthy of the punishment there.
Of Zaleucus. Let this be commanded to us, to all such male and female citizens and housemates; to remember God as being, and sending judgments upon the unjust; and to set before your eyes this time, in which the end of each one's departure from life occurs. For repentance befalls all who are about to die, remembering the wrongs they have done, and an impulse to wish that all things had been done justly by them.
Of Apollonius. But if there is perception in Hades, and care for the departed from the divinity, as we suppose, may those who helped the honors of the Gods that were being destroyed, receive the greatest care from the divinity.
Of Plutarch. Certain deep gates of Hades are opened, and rivers of fire and unbroken streams of wailing are mingled, and darkness is filled with phantoms of many forms, bringing harsh sights, and piteous voices. And judges and punishers and chasms, and recesses full of countless evils.

The way of righteousness and mercy will find life and glory. Prov. 22. To a wise generation the fear of the Lord, and wealth and glory and life. Sirach 34. Do not give a blemish in your glory, and in the day of glory do not be lifted up. Sirach 7. Do not seek from the Lord leadership, nor from a king a throne
of glory. Sirach 11. Many rulers were greatly dishonored, and glorious ones were delivered
into the hands of others. Sirach 9. Do not envy the glory of sinners. Sirach 4. To a great man, bow your head. Sirach 8. Do not contend with a powerful man, lest you fall into
his hands. Sirach 13. But when a powerful man calls, be retiring, and then especially
he will call. Sirach 32. In the midst of great men do not make yourself equal. Sirach 42. He made nothing lacking; one confirmed the good things of the other;
and who will be satisfied seeing his glory?
