Year 3775. 172 The 36th of the Egyptians, Amenses, reigned for 11 years. It was year 3707 of the world. The 37th of the Egyptians, Misphragmuthosis, reigned for 16 years. It was year 3801 of the world. The 38th of the Egyptians, Misphres, reigned for 23 years. It was year 3817 of the world. The 39th of the Egyptians, Tuthmosis, reigned for 39 years. It was year 3840 of the world.

KINGS OF THE THEBANS The 37th of the Thebans, Phruoro, that is, Nilus, reigned for 5 years.

It was year 3889 of the world. 19th. It was year 3894 of the world. The 38th of the Thebans, Amuthartaeus, reigned for 63 years. It was year 4013 of the world. The rule of the 38 kings of the so-called Thebans in Egypt, whose names Eratosthenes, having received them from the sacred scribes in Diospolis, transliterated from the Egyptian to the Greek language, here ended its rule, having begun from the 2nd year of the world, 124 years after the confusion of tongues, and ending at this point in the 3075th year of the world. As for the names of the other 53 Theban kings following these, which are handed down by the same Apollodorus, we consider it superfluous to set them forth here, as they contribute nothing to our purpose, since not even those before them did.

KINGS OF THE SICYONIANS The 19th of the Sicyonians, Sicyon, reigned for 42 years. And of the

world it was year 3007. The 20th of the Sicyonians, Polybus, reigned for 43 years. It was year 4032 of the world. 173 The 21st of the Sicyonians, Inachus, reigned for 45 years. It was year 4075 of the world. The 22nd of the Sicyonians, Hephaestus, reigned for 10 years. It was year 4120 of the world. The 23rd of the Sicyonians, Adrastus, reigned for 7 years. It was year 4130 of the world. The 24th of the Sicyonians, Polypheides, reigned for 31 years. It was year 4137 of the world. The 25th of the Sicyonians, Pelasgus, reigned for 20 years. It was year 4168 of the world.

KINGS OF THE ARGIVES The 3rd of the Argives, Apis, reigned for 35 years. It was of the world

year 3808. The cataclysm of Ogygus, recorded among the Greeks as the most ancient, which took place in Acte, now Attica, happened in these times. For it is recorded variously, some saying it was in the time of Phoroneus, others in the time of Apis. Likewise, the journey from Egypt is also reported variously by the Greek historians as having occurred at the same time as the cataclysm of Ogygus. Agreeing with them on this point are also Josephus and Justus, Jewish historians, and of our own persuasion, Clement the Stromatist, Tatian, and Africanus, whose testimony we shall next set forth. From Africanus. In his third discourse he says: “We say then from this composition that Ogygus, after whom the first cataclysm was named, having been saved when many were destroyed, lived at the time of the exodus of the people from Egypt with Moses.” And a little later: “And after Ogygus, because of the great destruction from the cataclysm, what is now Attica remained without a king until Cecrops, for 189 years. For Philochorus says that Ogygus Actaeus, or the fabricated names, did not even exist.” And after other things: “From Ogygus, then, to Cyrus, just as from Moses to his own time, is 174 1235 years. But some of the Greeks also record that Moses lived at the same time, Polemon, in the first of his Greek Histories, saying: in the time of Apis, son of Phoroneus, a portion of the Egyptian army left Egypt, and they settled in the part of Palestine called Syria, not far from Arabia; these are evidently those with Moses. And Apion, a most diligent grammarian of Poseidonius, in his book Against the Jews and in the fourth of his Histories says that in the time of Inachus, king of Argos, when Amos was king of Egypt, the Jews revolted, of whom Moses was leader. And Herodotus also mentions this revolt and Amos in his second book, and in a way also the Jews, numbering them among those who practice circumcision.” He says this Apis first to the Egyptians
