But I, lying down, was laughing and was arming myself with prayer and with the sign of the cross I was repelling them all, and not daring to touch or come near me, standing somewhere far off, they seemed to frighten me, holding fire in their hands they threatened to burn me; and they were shouting loudly and making noises and, so that they might not boast as if doing something great, (131) they saw me become a light through the intercessions of my father and suddenly they withdrew together, put to shame. Moses came forth from God, he found me courageous, overjoyed and trembling from the wonder-working. He asked what had happened, I told him everything, and that: Pharaoh was here, the king of Egypt, having just now arrived with an innumerable people and he was not strong enough to bind me, but he wanted to burn me and all who came with him became a flame, and they were sending forth fire against me from their mouths. And that: Seeing me become a light by your prayers, they all became darkness and now I am alone. "Look," Moses answered me, "and do not be confident, nor look at the things that are manifest, but rather fear the hidden things! Come, let us take to flight! Thus God commands, and Christ will fight for us against the Egyptians." "Let us go," I said, "Lord, I will not be separated from you, I will not transgress your commandment, but I will keep them all; amen."

How can I declare Your wonders and marvels, O Master, how can I narrate in word the depths of Your judgments, which You accomplish each day in us, Your servants? How do You overlook the infinite multitudes of my failings and do not reckon, O Master, my evil deeds, but You have mercy and protect me and enlighten me and nourish me as if I were fulfilling all Your commandments, my Savior? And not only do You have mercy on me, but You also deem me worthy of more than this: to stand before You
