is to him; but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; because her hair is given to her for a covering. God is not of disorder, but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. Let the women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted for them to speak, but to be in submission, as the law also says. And if they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. Let a woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I do not permit a woman to teach, nor to have authority over a man. Let women cease the idle talk from their mouths, and the whisperings, remembering how the evil one, having whispered to Eve, cast her out of paradise.

TITLE 10. -Concerning women giving birth; if she bears a male child. for 40 days she shall not

enter the house of the Lord; but if a female, for eighty. The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: Speak to the sons of Israel, and you shall say

to them, saying: If any woman has conceived seed, and born a male child, she shall be unclean seven days, according to the days of the separation of her menstruation. And on the eighth day you shall circumcise the flesh of his foreskin; and for thirty-three days she shall sit in her unclean blood; she shall touch no holy thing, and she shall not enter the sanctuary, until the days of her purification are fulfilled. But if she bears a female child, she shall be unclean two times seven days according to her separation; and for sixty-six days she shall sit in her unclean blood. Infants in the womb are by nature brought to life in seven months, as something most paradoxical happens. For seven-month-olds become viable, while eight-month-olds are generally unable to be brought to life.

TITLE 11. -Concerning a brave and prudent woman.

He withdrew on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite. And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him: Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; do not be afraid. And he turned in to her into the tent, and she covered him with a mantle. And Sisera said to her: Give me, I pray you, a little water to drink, for I am thirsty. And she opened the skin of milk, and gave him drink, and put a mantle on him. And Sisera said to her: Stand now at 95.1316 the door of the tent, and it shall be, if anyone comes to you and asks you if there is a man here, you shall say: There is not. And Jael took the peg of the tent, and put the hammer in her hand, and went in to him secretly, and drove the peg into his temple, and it passed through into the ground. And he convulsed between her knees, and grew cold, and died. And, behold, Barak pursuing Sisera, and Jael went out to meet him, and said to him: Come, and I will show you the man whom you seek. He went in to her, and, behold, Sisera cast down dead, and the peg in his temple. Blessed among women be Jael, wife of Heber the Kenite, above women in tents may she be blessed. He asked for water, and she gave milk in a lordly bowl. Abimelech drew near to the gate of the tower to burn it with fire; and a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone upon Abimelech's head, and broke his skull. And he cried quickly to the young man who bore his armor, and said to him: Draw your sword, and kill me, lest they say that a woman killed him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died. Michal his wife told David, saying: If you do not save his life this night, tomorrow you will be put to death. And Michal let David down through the window, and he went away, and fled, and was saved. Abigail said to David: Upon me, my lord, be the iniquity. Let your handmaid, I pray you, speak in your ears. Let not my lord set his heart on this pestilent man, for foolishness is with him.
