and the heavier the winter, so much the greater will be your reward, for you who choose to do and to suffer all things, in order to restore the peace that has been disturbed, and to strive to set in proper order all that has been thrown into confusion. 171. To Montius. Though we are situated far from you in the presence of the body, we are near in the disposition of the soul, and we are with you, and intertwined with you each day, considering within ourselves your fervent love for us, your hospitality, your friendliness, your great care and zeal, which you have shown in all things, and delighting in the memory of your nobility, and proclaiming to all your sincere disposition, which has no guile. Therefore we also desire letters from your nobility, and we ask you to write to us continually, and to announce the good news concerning your health, so that from this we may reap much comfort, learning of your well-being. For it is of great concern to us to know this. Do not, therefore, deprive us of this gladness; but as often as it is possible, write, announcing this good news. 172. To Helladius. We were with you for only a short time, but we have received great proof of your genuine and fervent love. For indeed noble souls in a short time win over those who meet them. This is indeed what you yourself have done, making us in a little while ardent lovers of your nobility. Therefore we also write, and report our own affairs, that we are living in much quiet and peace, with everyone here caring for us with zeal and regarding us with much goodwill. Therefore, so that we may also rejoice by learning of your affairs, do not hesitate to write to us continually, and to announce the good news concerning your health, so that from this we may also reap much comfort, receiving such letters from your nobility. 173. To Euethius. Even if we are separated from your nobility in body, 52.711 we are bound to your soul by love. Such pledges of friendship you have deposited with us, having shown great care and affection for us there. For this reason, wherever we go, we do not cease to express thanks to your nobility. And we ask you also to write to us continually, and to announce the good news concerning your health. For we, having completed the entire journey without trouble and with safety, are staying in Cucusus, delighting 52.712 in the quiet of the place, and in the peace, and enjoying much care and goodwill. So that, therefore, we may rejoice by learning of your well-being, be diligent to send us frequent and continual letters, announcing the good news to us about your health and that of your whole household. Blessed are you both for your bonds, and for the spirit with which you bear the bonds, displaying apostolic courage in these things; since they too, when scourged, driven out, and bound, bore these things with great pleasure; and not only did they bear them with great pleasure, but while in chains they also attended to their duties, and cared for the whole world. Therefore I beseech your love not to fall away because of this, but by as much as your pain increases from what you suffer, to show all the more zeal, and each day to care for the Churches throughout the world, so that some fitting correction may come about, not looking to your small number, nor becoming more remiss because you are driven about from all sides.
