Natural will is the simple and unchanging impulse and desire for things that are by nature constitutive. Gnomic will, however, is the qualitative and various movement and appetite for things that are gathered according to pleasure.

From the same, from the epistle to Marinus the presbyter, What is will, and what is

choice? They say will is natural, that is, volition; Look back likewise in the

same epistle, concerning counsel and judgment and prudence and opinion and power. VARIOUS DEFINITIONS OF OUR HOLY AND GOD-BEARING FATHERS ... Of our holy and God-bearing Fathers, concerning the two energies of our

Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ. Of Saint Justin the philosopher, and finally martyr, from the discourse to Euphrasius

the sophist, concerning Providence and Faith, the beginning of which is: "The Word is immaculate.” (15Α_378> If God has the will concurrent with his nature, just as he also has the

Natural energy is the essential and constitutive quality of every essence; that which is deprived of it, is also deprived of all essence.

Natural energy is an essential power not allowing even one alteration in essence from one thing to another.

(15Α_380> Natural energy is the power that preserves unmingled the essential distinction of all things from all things.

Of Saint Alexander, from the epistle to Aeglon, bishop of Cynopolis, against

the Arians. Natural energy is the innate movement of every nature. Energy is

natural, the essential and gnostic principle of every nature. Natural energy is the declarative power of every essence.

Of Gregory of Nyssa. The energy of a rational soul is the movement of the intellect and 0281 thought. Energy

is an essential movement characteristic of the nature to which it properly belongs, through which it is known to differ essentially from others. Energy is an active movement. And that which moves of itself is called active. For we say that energy is the natural power and movement of each essence, without which nature neither exists nor is known. For of intellectual beings, it is intellection; of sentient beings, sensation, according to which, these also
