and of him who had seen the revelation. 260 It must be known that the author of the present book, having provided it for reading to honorable persons who requested it, then, when they were reluctant to give the book back, he himself, not having diligently kept some of the drafts but having cast them aside carelessly, having been asked again by another, used the preserved drafts for the composition, but the meaning of the lost ones he expressed in a few places, as was likely, in other words. If, therefore, some small disagreement in the wording should appear, it should in no way cause hesitation for the readers, since the meaning remains the same even in the brevity of the words. καὶ τὴν ἀποκάλυψιν ἑωρακότος. 260 Ἰστέον ὡς ὁ τῆς παρούσης βίβλου συγγραφεὺς ταύτ[ην] αἰτήσασιν ἐντίμοις προσώποις πρὸς ἔντε[υξιν παρα]σχόμενος, εἶτα τοῦ ἀναδοῦναι τὴν βίβλον ὀκνησά[ντων], αὐτός τινα τῶν σχεδαρίων οὐ φιλοπόνως φυλάξας [ἀλλὰ] παραρρίψας ὡς ἔτυχε, πάλιν αἰτηθεὶς παρ' ἑ[τέρου] τοῖς μὲν σεσωσμένοις τῶν σχεδαρίων εἰς τὴν συγ[γρα]φὴν συνεχρήσατο, τῶν ἀπολλυμένων δὲ τὴν διάνοιαν ἐν ὀλίγοις χωρίοις ὡς εἰκὸς ἐν ἑτέραις ἐξέφρασε λέξεσιν. εἰ τοίνυν διαφωνία τις μικρὰ ἐν ταῖς λέξεσι φαίνοιτο, μηδαμῶς ἐμποιήσει δισταγμὸν τοῖς ἐντυγχάνουσι, τῆς διανοίας μενούσης τῆς αὐτῆς καὶ ἐν τῇ βραχύτητι τῶν λέξεων. δόξα τῷ Θεῷ ἡμῶν πάντων ἕνεκα· ἀμήν.
