maker of all things 119.4 invisible and visible; and in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, begotten from God the Father, only-begotten, that is from the substance of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, of one substance with the Father, through whom all things were made, both in the heavens and on 119.5 the earth, visible and invisible, who for us men and for our salvation came down and was incarnate, that is, was perfectly begotten of the holy Mary, the ever-virgin, through the Holy Spirit, was made man, that is, took on a perfect man, soul and body and mind and all that a man is, without 119.6 sin; not from the seed of a man nor being in a man, but forming for himself flesh into one holy unity; not as he inspired and spoke and worked in the prophets, but 119.7 was perfectly made man; "For the Word became flesh," not undergoing a change nor altering his own divinity into humanity, but uniting into one his own * holy perfection and divinity; for there is one Lord Jesus Christ and not two, the same God, 119.8 the same Lord, the same King; the same suffered in the flesh and rose again and ascended into the heavens in the same body, sitting gloriously at the right hand of the Father, coming in the same body in glory to judge the living and the dead; of whose kingdom there will be no 119.9 end. And in the Holy Spirit, who spoke in the Law and preached in the prophets, came down upon the Jordan, speaks in 119.10 the apostles, dwells in the saints. Thus we believe in him, that he is the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, the perfect Spirit, the Paraclete Spirit, uncreated, proceeding from the Father and receiving from the Son 119.11 and † believed in. We believe in one catholic and apostolic Church, and in one baptism of repentance, and in the resurrection of the dead, and in the just judgment of souls and bodies, and in the kingdom 119.12 of heaven, and in eternal life. But those who say that there was a time when the Son or the Holy Spirit was not, or that he came into being from non-existence, or who claim he is from another hypostasis or substance, or that the Son of God or the Holy Spirit is subject to change or alteration, these the catholic and apostolic church, the mother of you and of us, anathematizes. And again we anathematize those who do not confess the resurrection of the dead and all the heresies that are not of this right faith.
119.13 As you and your children, most blessed, so believe and fulfill the commandments of this faith, we hope that you will always pray for us to have a share and an inheritance in the same 119.14 faith and in the inheritance of its commandments. And pray for us, you and everyone who so believes and keeps the commandments of the Lord in Christ Jesus our Lord, through whom and with whom be glory to the Father with the Holy Spirit for ages of ages. Amen.
119.15 Thus far, beloved brothers, our brevity and the weak power of our mind was forced to reach, as your goodness urged us, though incapable, to present beyond our measure, so as to need help, as we extend ourselves; but the faithful one in 119.16 heaven knows all things. Nevertheless, peace to all who walk by this rule of this true and orthodox faith, and upon the Israel of God. Greet all the saints in the Lord. The servants of the Lord greet you, and especially I, Anatolius, who wrote this book of the discourse named Ancoratus, and I pray that you may be well in the Lord.
