the Son of man is betrayed; it would have been good for him if he had not been born.” And having heard these things, he went away and said to the priests: “What are you willing to give me, and I will deliver him to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. And on Thursday, having eaten the Passover with him, when he had dipped his hand in the dish and taken the morsel and gone out by night, the Lord said to us: “The hour has come, that you should be scattered and leave me alone,” and when each one was insisting that he would not forsake him, and I, Peter, was promising even to die with him, he said: “Amen I say to you, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you know me.” And having delivered to us the antitypal mysteries of his precious body and blood, Judas not being present with us, he went out to the Mount of Olives near the brook of Kidron, where there was a garden; and we were with him and sang a hymn according to the custom. And having separated from us a little, he prayed to the Father, saying: “Father, take this cup away from me; yet not my will be done, but yours.” And having done this a third time, when we had fallen asleep from sorrow, he came and said to us: “The hour has drawn near, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.” And behold, Judas and with him a crowd of impious men; and he shows them a treacherous kiss as a sign of betrayal, and they, having received the signal, seized the Lord and, having made him a prisoner, led him to the house of Caiaphas the high priest, in which had been assembled not a people, but a mob, not a sacred council of elders, but a sanhedrin of lawless men and a council of the impious; who, having done many things against him, did not omit any kind of insolence, spitting, mocking, striking, slapping, reviling, testing him, seeking divination instead of prophecy, calling him an ironist, a blasphemer, a transgressor of Moses, a destroyer of the temple, an abolisher of sacrifices, an enemy of the Romans, an opponent of Caesar. And having behaved with drunken violence toward him with these things until deep dawn, these bulls and dogs lead him away to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas; and there having done similar things, it being the day of preparation, they handed him over to the governor of the Romans, Pilate, accusing him of many and grave things, none of which they were able to prove; at which the governor, being annoyed, said: "I find no cause against him." But they, having brought two false witnesses, wanted to slander the Lord; but as they were found to be inconsistent
