honor. Exalt the Lord our God, and worship. Shout for joy to God, all the earth; serve the Lord with gladness. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me. Bless the Lord, all His works, in every place of His dominion. May my meditation be sweet to him. Give thanks to the Lord, and call upon his name. Who will declare the mighty acts of the Lord? He will make them heard. His praise endures for ever and ever. Praise, O servants, the Lord, praise the name of the Lord. May the name, etc. The dead will not praise you, Lord, nor all who go down into Hades. To you I will sacrifice a sacrifice of praise, and in the name of the Lord. Praise the Lord, all you nations; praise him. Behold, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord. Sing to his name, for it is good. For Jacob, etc. Praise the Lord, for a psalm is good, for our God. Honor the Lord, and you will be strong; but fear no other than him. Sanctify the Lord himself, and he shall be your fear. And if you trust in him, he will be to you a sanctuary. Sing to God a new hymn; his dominion is glorified from the end of the earth. Because you did not remember me, nor took me to your heart, I too, seeing you, overlook you. Hymn the Lord, cry out his name. Give glory to our God before it grows dark, and before your feet stumble on dark mountains. May the name of God be blessed from now and for ever, for his is wisdom and praise. 95.1357 One must precede the sun in thanksgiving to God, and at the rising of the light, meet with him. The living and healthy will praise the Lord. Bless the Lord, who made you, and inebriates you with his good things. Bless the Lord in all his works; give greatness to his name, and give thanks in his praise, with songs of lips and with lyres. Sanctify Christ the Lord in our hearts. This is the indwelling of God, to have God established in oneself through remembrance. The consolations of hymns bestow a cheerful and griefless state of the soul. Glorify the Maker, in whom all things were created, whether visible or invisible, whether principalities or powers, and if there are any other unnamable rational natures. Let us know God, let us worship the Creator, let us serve the Master, let us glorify the Father, let us love our nurturer, let us revere our benefactor, the author of our present life, and of the life to come, and let us not cease worshiping. Let us offer the sacrifice of praise to you, the self-sufficient and perfect God; who does not demand bodily sacrifices, in which the more prosperous have an advantage, but the pure confession from a disposition of the heart, in which all who are willing have an equal share. One must remember God more than one must breathe. A sign of piety is to continually care for divine things, and to propitiate by frequent petitions. Revere God with solemn works, hymn him with words, honor him with thought. No one honors God worthily, but only justly, since it is not even possible to return equal thanks to one's parents. For it is not possible to beget them in return.

TITLE IV. - Concerning justification; and who were justified before God.

I shall not live forever, that I should be patient. Depart from me; for my life is empty. For what is man, that you have magnified him, or that you give attention to him? or will you visit him until the morning, and judge him in a moment? How long will you not leave me, nor let me go, until I swallow my spittle in pain? If I have sinned, what can I do, O you who know the mind of men? Why have you set me as an opponent to you, and I am a burden to you? and why will you not make a forgetting of my law 95.1360 lessness, and a purification of my sin? 95.1360 But now I will go away to the earth. Since I am wicked, why did I not die? And if I should wash myself with snow,
