from evening until the cock-crowing, keeping vigil and gathering together in the church, be watchful, praying and beseeching God in your all-night vigil, reading the Law, the Prophets, the Psalms, until the crowing of the cocks; and having baptized your catechumens and read the Gospel in fear and in trembling and spoken to the people the things that pertain to salvation, cease from your mourning and pray to God for Israel to be converted and to receive a place of repentance and forgiveness of their impiety; For the foreign judge, having washed his hands, said: 'I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man, you see to it,' but Israel cried out: 'His blood be on us and on our children.' And when Pilate said: 'Shall I crucify your king?' they cried out: 'We have no king but Caesar; crucify, crucify him; for everyone who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar, and if you release this man, you are not Caesar’s friend.' And Pilate the governor and Herod the king ordered him to be crucified, and the saying is fulfilled: 'Why did the Gentiles rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth stood by, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ, and they cast out the beloved as a loathsome corpse.' And He having been crucified on the preparation day and having risen at the dawning of the Lord's day, the scripture was fulfilled which says: 'Arise, O God, judge the earth, for you shall inherit all nations.' And again: 'Now I will arise, says the Lord, I will set him in safety; I will speak boldly in it.' And: 'But you, O Lord, have mercy on me and raise me up, and I will repay them.' Therefore you also, when the Lord has risen, offer your sacrifice, concerning which He commanded you through us, saying: 'Do this in remembrance of me,' and for the rest, cease from fasting, rejoicing and celebrating, because the pledge of your resurrection, Jesus Christ, has been raised from the dead, and let this be an eternal ordinance for you until the end of the age, until the Lord comes. For to the Jews the Lord is still dead, but to Christians He is risen, to the one because of unbelief, to the other because of full assurance, because the hope in Him is immortal and eternal life. And after eight days let there be for you again an honored feast, this eighth day itself, on which me, Thomas, doubting concerning the resurrection
