are gifts, but the same Spirit; and to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom, to another knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another prophecy, to another kinds of tongues; from many spiritual men who have received different gifts the Church has been established; fittingly he compared the division of gifts to golden tassels. For the tassels are divided from one another, and again are united as if hanging from the same garment. 80.1197 "Virgins shall be brought to the king after her, her companions shall be brought to you. [10.] They shall be brought with gladness and rejoicing; they shall be led into the temple of the king." For since not all have the highest perfection, he calls some a bride, as perfect in virtue, and others virgins, as having kept undefiled the faith which they received. Yet he says that these too are followers of the queen, and enter with her into the royal temple. The Lord taught us this difference in the holy Gospels, saying: "In my Father's house are many mansions." In harmony also the blessed Paul said, "For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive, but every man in his own order." 17. "Instead of your fathers, your sons were born, you will make them princes over all the earth." Let the Jews say, what sons did they have who ruled the whole world? But they could not show any; for they neither ruled, nor do they rule, but serve the uttermost slavery, but the divine apostles, having had the patriarchs as fathers, rule over land and sea even after death, like certain prefects and generals, appointed by Christ the king of all. And those after them, whom one would not err in calling sons of the Church, I mean the victorious martyrs, were appointed to govern the same dominion, and now have all as subjects; some choosing to do this out of desire, others being compelled by fear. 18, 19. "I will make your name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise you for ever and ever." Having prophesied these things, the Psalmist promises to praise the divine name in every generation through the devout of each time. For thus also the three have rendered it: "I will praise your name in every generation, therefore peoples will hymn you for ever and ever." For using the melody composed by me, all the peoples throughout the world, and through this learning of the salvation granted to them which was prophesied from above, will continue to praise you, the benefactor and giver of good things.

80.1200 INTERPRETATION OF PSALM 45. 80.1200 1. "For the end, for the sons of Korah, concerning secret things." The things after much

period of time which are to come, the prophetic word, foretelling, again inscribed the psalm "For the end," urging to await the end of the prophecy. And it foretells the uprisings that have occurred against the Church, and the help from heaven provided after these things, and the peace now prevailing. It should be known, however, that some have supposed the present psalm to be spoken of Gog and Magog; others of Ahaz and Pekah; and others of Hezekiah and the Assyrian. But the detailed interpretation will show, God willing, that the meaning of the psalm fits none of these. 2. "Our God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in the troubles that have found us." The preceding psalm, having prophesied about the Church gathered from impious nations, and having become a queen, and having shown her sons; who were declared rulers of all the earth, here points out the disturbances that occurred at the beginning of the preaching, when those who contradicted rose up and made war on the believers.
