(168) and he immediately desired to serve me alone, and for this reason he so disregarded parents and brothers and house, and land together with relatives and neighbors and friends, and so he came to me, as if he had never seen any of them, nor known a person on earth in the world, but as if stepping into some foreign land and city having all speaking different languages and barbarians, so he happened to live and be disposed in the midst of his customary acquaintances and friends, his own people and rulers and the rich of the world? But these things when said are mere and small to the insensitive, but great and lofty to me, the overseer of these things. Which of the great powers and thrones on earth, or of those who say they rule and reign through me, or of those who represent my divine apostles, has either conceived this or been strong enough to keep it, so that at the time of observing my commandment and law he sees all as one, relatives and strangers, rich and poor alike, the glorious and the inglorious, and the powerful, forsooth, with the more humble? Who is it that has judged dispassionately, looking smoothly on these things? If I should find a soul that has kept these things in the world, especially in the present generation and day, I will glorify it equal to my apostles and prophets, and it will sit together with me at my coming, for it will judge then as it would have justly on earth and will carry off the glory of a judge of the dead and the living. It is good to seek out these things and the rest along with them and to observe them, with all one's power, and to keep them exactly; and not to seek out my nature, O son of man, nor my energies, of the Holy Spirit, (169) how the sun is shown, how a star is seen, appearing from somewhere afar and passing over mountains, and by its being hidden from your eyes, causing you inconsolable affliction and grief, and when you reckon that it will no longer appear to you, it is found within, in your heart, bestowing on you astonishment and joy unexpectedly; nor, because a flame is shown to you, a radiance and fire is seen, should you marvel or investigate, for this is not good for you! Believe therefore that I am light, altogether unformed,
