234 KINGS OF THE MACEDONIANS Karanos the Argive, brother of Pheidon the then-king of Argos, eager to acquire a land of his own, having taken a force from Pheidon his brother from Argos and the rest of the Peloponnese, came upon the places in Macedonia. And having allied with the king of the Orestae against the neighboring people called the Eordani, and having received half of the conquered land on account of the alliance, he took over Macedonia and founded a city in it according to an oracle, from which as a base he established the Macedonian kingdom, which his descendants inherited in succession. Karamos was the 11th from Heracles, and the 7th from Temenus, who with the other Heracleidae came down into the Peloponnese. Karanos, the 1st king of the Macedonians, reigned for 30 years. And it was the year of the world 4701. 18 years before the first Olympiad. From Karanos the 1st king of the Macedonians until Alexander the founder, there were 24 kings of the Macedonians for 480 years. Pheidon, ruling Argos, brother of Karanos the 1st king of the Macedonians, first invented measures and weights, as some say; but they existed even before him. Koinos, the 2nd king of the Macedonians, reigned for 28 years. And it was the year of the world 4731.

YEARS OF THE WORLD Amaziah, his son, reigned as the 9th king of Judah for 29 years. And of the

world it was the year 4653. Amaziah campaigned against the Idumaeans and the sons of Seir, and 235 conquering them he took their gods, and having brought them to Jerusalem, he worshipped them. And in the war, 3 men from Judah were killed by the 10 tribes. The things concerning Naaman, the commander of the king of Syria, and how he was delivered from leprosy. And Gehazi, the servant of Elisha, brought this upon himself for money by lying to the prophet. While a prophet was cutting wood by the Jordan, the iron head of the axe fell off, which, floating up like wood at the command of Elisha, the prophet recovered. Amaziah, when a rebellion arose, was killed having fled to Lachish, after reigning for 29 years. Azariah, also called Uzziah, son of Amaziah, reigned as the 10th king of Judah for 52 years. And it was the year of the world 4682. This man was pious and warring against the neighboring nations he took many cities. And being most industrious he fortified the cities with towers and walls and provided the desert with cisterns of water. This Uzziah, having attempted to enter the holy place, when Azariah the high priest prevented him, was struck with leprosy; and he was unapproachable on account of the shame. And Jotham his son judged Judah in his stead. And Amos, Hosea, Isaiah prophesied. The first Olympiad began in the 45th year of Uzziah. Jotham son of Uzziah reigned as the 11th king of Judah for 16 years. And it was the year of the world 4734. Beginning of the 3rd Olympiad, the first of Jotham. Jotham, being pious, built the gate of the house of the Lord, and imposed tribute on the Ammonites. Hosea, Joel, Isaiah, Oded, Micah were still prophesying. Jotham built very many things in Jerusalem. 236 Ahaz reigned as the 12th king of Judah for 16 years. And it was the year of the world 4750. Ahaz, meeting with Tiglath-pileser in Damascus, saw a certain idolatrous altar. Taking its measurements, he sent them to Jerusalem to Urijah the high priest, ordering him to make one like it, on which he sacrificed to the gods of the Syrians upon his return; and he closed the temple of God. Isaiah, Hosea, Micah were still prophesying. Hezekiah reigned as the 13th king of Judah for 29 years. And it was the year of the world 4766. Hezekiah, son of Ahaz and Rabouna the daughter of Zechariah, became more pious than all the kings who had reigned before him in Jerusalem after David. This man tore down the idol-shrines and shattered their pillars, and he pulled down the high places which had been used for incense by the Jews from Solomon until his own time, and he cut down the groves, destroying also the bronze serpent which Moses lifted up in the desert, which until his time was offered incense and worshipped by the people, along with the other abominations. Hezekiah therefore, the king of Judah, after tearing down the idol-shrines and cutting down the groves and destroying the bronze serpent the
