And terrified by the shout, bishop Basil was awakened, disturbed. For the emperor Julian honored him both as a learned man and as his collaborator, and wrote to him frequently. And Saint Basil, having gone down for the morning services to the church, called all his clergy and told them the mystery of the vision, and that Julian the emperor was slain and died on that night. And they all begged him to be silent and to say nothing of the sort to anyone. But the most learned Eutropius the chronicler did not agree on some of these things in his own writing. And after the reign of Julian the apostate, Jovian, the son of Uranianus, reigned, having been crowned by the army there in the Persian territories during the consulate of Salustius; he was a very devout Christian; and he reigned for 7 months. And as soon as he became emperor, he addressed the whole army and the senators with him, crying out himself, "If you wish me to reign over you, then you must all be Christians." And all 335 the army and the senators acclaimed him. And the same Jovian, having come out with the army from the desert into the fertile Persian land, was concerned about how he might get out of the Persian territories. But the king of the Persians, Sabbourarsakios, having learned of the death of the emperor Julian, being seized with great fear, sent an ambassador from the land of Persarmenia, asking about peace and sending one of his magnates named Surraeinan to the emperor of the Romans; whom the most divine emperor Jovian received gladly and consented to receive the embassy of peace, saying that he himself would also send an ambassador to the king of the Persians. And Surraeinan, the ambassador of the Persians, having heard this, asked the emperor Jovian to formulate a peace treaty immediately and at once. And having appointed his senator, the patrician Arintheus, he gave him full authority, having instructed him to abide by what was approved by him, that is, what was formulated, since his king was proud, to make a peace treaty with the senator, that is, the ambassador of the Persians, and having granted a cessation of war for three days for the council concerning peace. And it was formulated between 336 the patrician Arintheus the Roman and Surraeinan, senator and ambassador of the Persians, that the Romans give to the Persians the whole province called Mygdonia and its metropolis called Nisibis, stripped, with only its walls, without the men who inhabit it. And when this was confirmed and a written peace was made, the emperor Jovian took with him one of the satraps, a Persian, along with the ambassador, named Junius, in order to save himself and his expedition from the Persian land and to hand over the province and its metropolis. And having arrived at the city of Nisibis, the emperor Jovian did not enter into it,
