And it is necessary for us to prepare for his banquet friends from the rank of the magistroi, praepositi, proconsuls, patricians, officials, metropolitans and other archons, both imperial and of the tagmata, according to the capacity of the table. And they are led in 780 and out thus: the magistroi, praepositi, patricians, officials, and all those under a campagion, with their own allaxima; but the other imperial men with their own scaramangia only. And on the same day in the evening the emperor departs to the church of Saint Diomedes, and on the next day, when the liturgy is celebrated, an invitation is issued according to custom, and likewise all those from the senate dine with the emperor. On the 29th day of the same month, the commemoration of our holy and orthodox great emperor Basil is performed, and the emperors proceed in state attire with scaramangia in the church of the Holy Apostles, and when the holy liturgy is celebrated, they likewise return home with glory, and an invitation is issued in the Justinian triclinium, and it is necessary for us to prepare for the banquet with the emperors friends from the rank of the magistroi, of the senatorial imperial men, according to the capacity of the table; to lead them in and out with their own scaramangia only, because the emperors also recline in such attire. And on the next day a reception is held for the rule in Christ of the faithful emperors, Leo and Alexander, and when the reception is auspiciously concluded, the pious lords again preside for the audience of many on the throne, and again the invitation 781 of the lord is arranged, and it is necessary for us to prepare for the banquet of the emperors from the rank of the magistroi, praepositi, proconsuls, patricians, officials, except for the eunuchs, half of all of them, and from the rank of the senate under a campagion, and of the tagmatic allaxima, according to the capacity of the table, and to lead them in with their own allaxima and chlanidia, and to reserve all the rest for the dance of the lord's joy. For dancing in a circle with golden breastplates, they weave the praises of the pious lords, and a gift of honor is given to all, 16 pounds of gold, and it is distributed to all by the protomagistros and the imperial artoklinos according to the custom of our kondakia. On the following day an equestrian hippodrome race is consequently held, and the invitation is issued at the triclinium of the kathismata, and friends are summoned to a banquet with the emperor according to the custom written in the hippodrome invitations. On the eighth day of the month of September, a procession is held for the birthday of our most holy lady the Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, and the emperors proceed in state attire with the whole senate in the church of the Holy Theotokos of the Chalkoprateia, and when the holy liturgy is celebrated, the emperor returns on horseback with 782 a golden scaramangion in state attire, and an invitation is issued at a separate table in the Justinian triclinium, and all those from the senate banquet with the emperor. And they are led in with their own scaramangia only. On the fourteenth of the same month is celebrated the elevation and appearance of the precious and life-giving cross, and the emperors go up at deep dawn in the church of Hagia Sophia, but sometimes also from the evening; and when the third elevation of the all-holy wood is celebrated, they come down again to the house through the covered passages at first, and when a civil procession is held inside the palace, an invitation is issued in the Justinian triclinium, and it is necessary for us to summon to the banquet of the emperors friends according to the custom of the invitations already mentioned; to lead all in with their own scaramangia only. And in the month of November the Brumalia of the lords are celebrated, and when the evening, candle-lit saximum is celebrated for each invitation, these apokombia are given: at the Brumalia of Leo the Christ-loving lord, 20 pounds of gold; at that of the fortunate Alexander augustus, 10 pounds of gold; at that of the pious Zoe augusta, 8 pounds of gold; which also are distributed by the great protomagistros and the renowned imperial artoklinos according to the 783 contained custom of our kondakion. All these therefore, the customary invitations coming periodically in time, introduce a certain specific,
