only, but that we may also be corrected, and demonstrate great virtue in Christ Jesus; to whom be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. ON THE 10TH PSALM. To the end, for David. Another, A song of victory for David. Another, For the Giver of victory. 1. In the Lord I have put my trust; how will you say to my soul, 'Flee to the mountains like a sparrow?' Another, Be driven to the mountains like a sparrow Another, Move away. For behold, the sinners have bent their bow, they have prepared their arrows in the quiver, to shoot in the darkness at the upright in heart. Another, As in gloom. For what you have established, they have torn down. Another, For the ordinances have been abolished. Another, For the teachings will be crushed. Great is the power of hope in the Lord, an impregnable fortress, an unassailable wall, an unconquerable alliance, a calm harbor, an impregnable tower, an invincible weapon, an unconquerable power, and one that finds a way out of impossible situations. Through this, the unarmed overcame the armed, and women overcame men, and children appeared stronger than those practiced in warfare, with great ease. And what wonder is it if they prevailed over enemies, when they even overcame the world itself? For the elements, ignoring their own nature, were changed for their benefit, and the beasts were no longer beasts, nor the furnace, a furnace. For hope in God transforms all things. Whetted teeth, and a narrow prison, the ferocity of nature, and famine arming nature, a partition nowhere, and mouths near the Prophet's body; but hope in God, stronger than any bridle, falling upon their mouths, drew them back. Contemplating these things, he said to those who were urging him to flee and run away, and to secure his salvation from the safety of places: In the Lord I have put my trust; how will you say to my soul? What are you saying? I have the Master of the world as an ally; I have Him who works all things everywhere with ease, commanding the army and standing by me; and you send me to the uninhabited place, and from the wilderness you gather safety for me? For is the help of the wilderness greater than Him who can do all things with all ease? Why do you prepare me, who am strongly armed, to run away like one naked and unarmed, and command me to be a fugitive? Then, you would not have ordered the one who has an army, and is fortified with walls and weapons, to take refuge in the desert, but you would have appeared ridiculous advising these things; but the one who has the Master of the world with him, you exile, and you make a fugitive, and make a migrant 55.141, because of the war from sinners? For in addition to what has been said, I have this other reason for not fleeing. For when God is helping, and those who fight are sinners, how does the one advising me to imitate the timidity of birds not incur the utmost shame? Do you not consider the army arrayed against me, how it is more insignificant than a spider's web? For if the enemy of the earthly king, wherever he may be, lives precariously and is afraid and trembles; much more so the enemy of the God of all. For wherever he may go, he has everyone as an enemy, even creation itself. For just as the elements and the beasts fear His friends, and all creation respects them; so also the inanimate things war against and spurn His enemy and foe. For this reason, the beasts then tore some to pieces before they touched the ground, and fire consumed others. But bows and a quiver
