but someone perfected in holiness for ever in that tabernacle, which is what is meant by "Who will dwell in your holy mountain?" For this is eternal, being the same as the tent "which the Lord pitched, and not man." Yet even if such a tent has such perfection as to be a Holy of holies, still there is after it a state surpassing that of rational beings, according to which they will be in the Father and the Son, or rather in the Trinity. Therefore it is said to sojourn for ever, but not to dwell in the tabernacle. He who has come to be in this house will be covered in the shelter of the wings of God. 624a Ps 60,6b 624a For being rich, he says, and you provide great gifts, or rather, graciously giving to perfect men the ability to become your sons, you have given them an inheritance. For even if it is expected to be given at the resurrection in the age to come, yet by having already been prepared, it has been given to those who will be brought to it at the proper time. And to those who fear his name God has given an inheritance. If there is some difference between those who fear God and his name, and those who believe in him and in his name, since it has often been said that those who are familiar with the name of God are inferior to those who are united with God himself, see how the inheritance has been given also to those who fear God. For if this grace has belonged to the inferiors, much more to those who have surpassed them. 625a Ps 60,7.8 He who has obtained the interpreted gifts is some king in the sense in which it is said concerning the godly that they were "a royal priesthood, a holy nation." The apostles also, expecting to reign in this sense, say to the Corinthians: "Without us you have become kings, that we also might reign with you." To the king who has become so, years are added by the Lord, day being added to days. For it is necessary for a transition to occur from a preceding luminous state to another similar one, so that from that which is called "days" the eternal years are completed, concerning which it is said: "And I remembered eternal years, and I meditated." And the life of those who receive day upon day is prolonged until the day of a generation of generations before God. "His mercy and truth, who will seek them out?" In many places of the divine teachings, his mercy is joined together with the truth of God. Perhaps, then, since to know purely and clearly the truth of God is not possible for one clothed in human weakness, for this reason there is a need of God's mercy in order to comprehend the truth. This relates to the present subject: "to will all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." For first one must be saved by the mercy of God, so that subsequently the knowledge of the truth may exist. For the salvation of men is a work of God's mercy. "For God sent forth his mercy and his truth," and so forth. 626a Ps 60,9 Since I have obtained from you the things for which I asked, having thus become thankful, I will sing praise to your name, hymning through works and thoughts and good words your name that was called upon me; and in addition to this, day by day I will render the things I vowed, just as Jacob says: "If God gives me bread to eat," and so forth, "of all that you give me, a tenth I will tithe to you." For before these words is found "Jacob vowed a vow, saying," the words "If the Lord is with me" down to "I will tithe a tenth of it." And it is well said also to render vows "day by day," and to sing to the name of God "for ever and ever," with the singing to the name of the one hymned extending until the future age, but with the rendering of vows being fulfilled as long as the time that is completed from days still exists; and this is what is measured by each one's life. As long, then, as we are in this life, we will render our vows, so that we may be able also to sing to the name of God for ever and ever.
