knowing that every fornicator, or unclean person, or covetous man, who is an idolater, has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words. For because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth, proving what is acceptable to the Lord, and do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even expose them. Do not think, he says, when your life does not accompany your faith, that faith makes you partakers of the kingdom of Christ, which is the kingdom of God; nor let anyone deceive with empty words, as if true faith exists in those who live unlawfully, and is able to save them, for which things God is angry with the world. For what are marks of disobedience, it is unfitting for these things to be present in the sons of faith, and for us to be partakers of these things from which faith has separated us. But our rebirth into light must be witnessed by works, and we ourselves become a law to ourselves, providing a reproof of the evil life of men, our good conduct For the things done by them in secret it is a shame even to speak of. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light. for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light." See then that you walk circumspectly. To reprove by word, he says, is not the same as to do so through works; for by word it is shameful even to speak of what they do, which they themselves, being ashamed, cover up. But if we are light, we can also manifest the darkness by the opposition of the light; this is the best reproof. And we shall be light, having risen from the death-bearing sleep, and having partaken of Christ, according to what is said: "Awake, you who sleep." He did not say who is speaking, or where in the holy scriptures it is written; but many things were spoken by the Holy Spirit in those times, and were not written down. He means the one in sins. not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil; therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody. Not as fools, he says, be enticed, but as wise men guard your own way, so as not to be drawn in by the time of evil. in your heart to the Lord. He says this, so that our whole mind may be directed to the Lord, and we may not only make melody with our lips. 95.849 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is fitting to celebrate mysteries to God, hymning him, and recounting the good deeds which Christ performs. submitting to one another in the fear of God. Just as rising up against one another creates division, so submission creates connection. But we must submit to one another for Christ's sake, as performing this service to Christ. Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord; for the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives. He discusses the duties within households, which are ruling and subordinate. There are three kinds of these: two according to nature, wife and husband, children and parents; and one according to law. For this is slave and master. Therefore, to the one who obeys, he introduces submission; and to the one who rules, care for the one who obeys. Therefore, by the type in relation to Christ, he commands the wife to be subject to the husband, so that the submission may not be only bodily, but also become spiritual. just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her with the washing of water by
