in such a disposition, whole to whole He appeared to me, whole to whole He was united to me, He who is outside the world and carries about the world with all things in the world and holding in His hand alone visible things with invisible. This one, therefore, hear me, having met me, found me; from where, how He came, I do not know. For how was I to know from where He came, whom no man has ever seen, nor known where He is, where He pastures, where He rests? For He is not seen at all, He is not perceived at all, but He dwells in unapproachable light and is (230) a light of three hypostases, ineffably in uncircumscribed places, my uncircumscribed God, one Father, Son likewise, with the Divine Spirit, the three are one and the three are one God, inexplicably. For word has not the strength to express the inexpressible, nor mind to clearly perceive; for I am barely able to relate to you somewhat the things in us, but neither I, nor any other, will have the strength to interpret these things to you at all. How is God outside of all things, in essence and in nature, in power and in glory, and yet how is He everywhere and in all things, and yet exceptionally among these He dwells in the saints and tabernacles knowably in them and essentially, He who is altogether super-essential? How is He who holds together all creation held in the inward parts, and how does He shine in the heart, the fleshy and dense, how is He also inside it,

Οὗτος οὖν, ἀκούσατέ μου, συναντήσας εὕρατό με˙ πόθεν, πῶς ἐλθών, οὐ οἶδα. Πῶς γάρ ἔμελλον εἰδέναι, πόθεν ἦλθεν, ὅν ἀνθρώπων οὐδείς πώποτε οὐκ εἶδεν, οὔτε ἔγνω ποῦ ὑπάρχει, ποῦ ποιμαίνει, ποῦ κοιτάζει; Ὅλως γάρ οὐ καθορᾶται, ὅλως οὐ κατανοεῖται, ἐνοικεῖ δέ ἀπροσίτῳ ἐν φωτί καί φῶς ὑπάρχει (230) τρισυπόστατον ἀφράστως ἐν ἀπεριγράπτοις χώροις, ἀπερίγραπτος Θεός μου, εἷς Πατήρ, Υἱός ὡσαύτως, σύν τῷ Πνεύματι τῷ Θείῳ, ἕν τά τρία καί τά τρία εἷς Θεός ἀνερμηνεύτως. Λόγος γάρ οὐκ ἐξισχύει τά ἀνέκφραστα ἐκφράσαι, οὐδέ νοῦς σαφῶς νοῆσαι˙ τά γάρ ἐν ἡμῖν σοι μόλις ἐξειπεῖν ποσῶς ἰσχύω, ἑρμηνεῦσαι δέ σοι ταῦτα οὔτ᾿ ἐγώ, οὔτε τις ἄλλος τοῦτο ὅλως ἐξισχύσει. Πῶς Θεός τῶν πάντων ἔξω, τῇ οὐσίᾳ καί τῇ φύσει, τῇ δυνάμει καί τῇ δόξῃ, πανταχοῦ δέ πῶς καί ἐν πᾶσι, κατ᾿ ἐξαίρετον δέ τούτων ἐνοικεῖ ἐν τοῖς ἁγίοις καί σκηνεῖ γνωστῶς ἐν τούτοις καί οὐσιωδῶς, ὁ πάμπαν ὑπερούσιος ὑπάρχων; Πῶς συνέχεται ἐν σπλάγχνοις ὁ συνέχων πᾶσαν κτίσιν, πῶς δέ λάμπει ἐν καρδίᾳ, τῇ σαρκίνῃ καί παχείᾳ, πῶς καί ἔνδον ταύτης ἔστι,
